Evening folks.
Looking at doing a guided 1-2 week point to point type guided tour with the missus, and really keen to go somewhere a bit different eg South america, Asia, Iceland etc.
Ideally it would be something with terrain enough to keep me as a very keen mtb'r interested, but not too much for her lady ship, who is more a red, black at times trail centre type rider.
This trip sounds about spot on (but perhaps at the upper difficulty limit.....and expensive!) to give an idea of what we had in mind - http://www.mountainbikeworldwide.com/bike-tours/chile-patagonia
So, wondered what similar trips folk had been on, or guide companies you would recommend, or any other thoughts or ideas folks might have that would help us come up with a plan?
Cheers!
Any ideas welcome folks. Cheers!
if I had the cash I'd be going to iceland with IceBike. Met them in lanmannalaugar last summer and really nice guys.
as it is, I don't have the cash so I'll be doing it on the cheap.
no landrover support and helibiking for me. (i'm looking at you steve peat and hans rey...)
Have a look at Exodus, they do a lot of cycling holidays all over the world.
Isreal? I went there years ago, rode in the desert around Eilat. It was really good from what I remember, and I undersatnad that there are good traisl further north too. I'm sure there must be guiding companies that would do point to point there. Its not too far away and good weather in our winter
Plenty of companies do this sort of thing, Exodus, Red Spokes, KE Adventure, Saddle Skedaddle. I've used Exodus a few times, usually their cost includes flights but it can be expensive sometimes but it's all organised and sorted out for you. Really liked Morocco - Atlas Mountains, did a trip around Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam but this was more of a road/dirt track trip but wonderful countries, people, history and food. Lhasa to Kathmandu was epic but not technical. Haven't done anything interested for a few years so this year I've decided to go to Mongolia, really looking forward to that.
So, have a look at some of those companies, but be aware that some have the cost of the flights on top which can be expensive if you want to go to places like South America.
Nepal? I did something not too dissimilar to the recent ST article (Annapurna circuit). Fab trails - some will have you walking, some will have you whooping and you can pace it as you like staying in the tea houses.
Full disclosure... I work for Saddle Skedaddle....
But a couple of my favourite destinations are Peru and South Africa/Botswana.
Both have awesome riding and the cultural sights and sounds that you want from a long-haul trip.

We're currently considering the Exodus trip to Mongolia
Mongolia, I wouldn't recommend unless you like endless plains, check the photos. It was pretty barren and featureless. My son was a teacher there for two years.
Ofc it all depends what your looking for.
endless plains ... barren and featureless

I quite like endless plains and big open spaces, looking forward to zooming along some nice open tracks 😀
I've no idea if they're any good, but I've been quite tempted to book a week with these guys: http://www.mtbtours.ro/en/ - Carpathian mountains in Romania.
Hey there, I just saw on our website logs that you guys where discussing about mountain biking in the Carpathians, Romania. (www.mtbtours.ro) I'd be happy to answer any questions or help you with suggestions (I hope this post doesn't violate the rules of this forum). Best from Romania.
