You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Been [trying] to ride in the snow these last few days but both pedals and cleats have ended up like blocks of ice giving zero contact. Would things be any better if I switched to flats and what shoes would keep my feet as toasty as the shimano winter boots I am using currently?
If you're putting your feet down, flats are miles better in snow and ice- better if you lose control, better for dabs and tripods and all the other stuff that lets you ride things you otherwise couldn't in snow, and better for not filling with ice. I did a snow ride with 2 better riders a while back (one a sponsored dh rider), I ended up riding far more than they could just because of the pedal advantage.
But shoes, not so easy... Sealskinz and wooly socks do the job in my Freeriders, my new Sombrios seem a bit better though but neither are a patch on a good winter spd boot. It's annoying frankly.
Spray the pedals with GT85 or similar. Stops the ice forming for a bit. I reapplied each day. It also stops the gritter salt rusting the springs to bits.
