As above, cheap crap or decent for the price? Seem to get good reviews but real world experiences would be helpful. Cheers!

I've got that set, had for over a year, seem pretty good, not worn, snapped or rounded anything.

I realyl don't like the grip shape but they seem pretty good- nice solid fit unlike most cheapies, they'll get the job done.

I'm a tool tart though, I have a set of teng tthex7 and they're £20 more but really a first class tool, way I see it is I'll use them constantly, forever, so £20 across the life of the tool is basically nothing.

Also got a set of these: Draper

Yeah I know, Draper, but they're about on a par with the icetoolz in terms of quality and imo have a nicer grip. I had the predecessor set for about 20 years and they were ace but some bastard actually stole half the tools after using them to nick bits off my bike in a break-in!

Was just about to post something similar, annoying grip on the ice tools. See what you can get some teng or facom sets for, have used both for work & last well and comfy to use

Well the insurance kind of paid for the Teng ones so I have found forgiveness in my heart. But I still resent that the one 5mm allen key that I'd never lost for my entire adult life got nicked.

Colourful wera for me

£18-19 on a good day,

The thing I find with cheap sets of Allen keys is on the smaller sizes the heads aren’t always the correct size. Check the reviews and go for the 4.8/5 on hundreds of reviews usually works

Have to be honest, I really don't get the Wera hex plus, they work great in large, damaged bolts but in smaller stuff I'd always just rather have a quality, plain hex. When you get right down to the smaller sizes like 2mm I just don't think the concept really works YMMV of course but for mtb use give me a really good tight fitting standard one.

Probably ( non commital 😉 )
The teng 5mm i used for cracking rockshox lower bolts last 7 yers being welted with a big hammer duly so they’re quite tough 😉
Compared to posh stuff snap on etc they hold up well imo
Edit: just looked. Link above fancy some metal t bars now too 😮

Wera colourful ones for me- superb quality.

Those Facom ones look too good to risk getting dirty!

I have the wera colourful ones and in general am pretty pleased with them, they just work.

HOWEVER, the coloured plastic sleeve makes the tool a bit thicker, not normally a problem but prevents the small ones being used on the pad adjuster bolt on my trp spyres as the head is recessed in the caliper.
Just something worth considered depending on what your planning on using them for

Any first hand experience of the Proxxon brand I'm currently looking at from Axminster?

They sell them individually, and as I actually only have 2.5, 4, 5 and 6mm hex heads on my bike it makes sense to only buy what I'll actually use (rather than a bigger set of 7 or more).

These little fellas

I've had a Proxxon socket set for 17 years. It's been absolutely faultless. Love it, brilliant quality. Bought my best mate a similar one for his 30th nearly 10 years ago and as far as I'm aware no issues with that. I'd thoroughly recommend based on my experience.

Wera hex plus here, used them for work for years and they are the best one's I've come across for not rounding off the bolt heads on cheap bolts.

You know when you're rounded off a cheap bolt head and have to use a torx head instead, the wera hex plus are pretty much that.

@submarined: cheers for the feedback. I'll buy a few and hopefully they'll be as good as your experience suggests.

I've always hated having to buy whole sets of tools like hex keys just to get the few sizes I actually need.

Was looking at the Teng ones from Screwfix as well but they don't seem to have all the sizes I need. And they're nearly twice the price of the Proxxon as singles.

I have a set of the Ice Toolz, they aren't bad for the price and the hex size is compares pretty well to my Bondhus set. Though for small and/or tight bolts I will generally reach for the better quality Bondhus.

What I really want is a set of Beta 951 hex keys. Think I'm going to treat myself to at least the more commonly used sized.
