I'm considering getting a V2 or an AF. Everyone seems to praise these bikes, but just wanted to check whether I should be aware of any issues or niggles before I press the trigger. One thing I've spotted is that the cable routing is not readily compatible with a moto/UK brake set-up. More of an annoyance that a real problem though. Also, how is the sizing? I'm 5'10, so normally ride a Large in most brands.
I had a V1. I’m around the same height and had a Large. The cable routing was fine, cant remember what I did but it wasn’t an issue. Only reason I sold it is I came from an Evil Insurgent and just couldn’t get the shock to be as plush and supportive as the Insurgent, but that was down to the V1 kinematic which have been addressed with the V2. It
Have a V1 and it's great, not the most plush rear as philstone says but pedals well and is fun and fast to ride. I'm having a bit of a warranty issue at the moment but once I contacted Ibis direct things have started moving, I should have a V2 shortly. I have read its an all round improvement.
I demo'd a Forbidden Druid with Ziggy link, it didn't pedal as well or feel snappy like the Ripmo but it did pedal through roots and small bumps really well which the Ripmo struggles with as it has quite a bit of pedal kickback.
Cable routing isn't ideal, but not a real problem.
Had my V1 nearly 2 years now and really like it, spares can be difficult to get in UK (check Ibis UK / 2 pure site most items no stock and have been for a good while) though Ibis USA were very helpful, but unfortunately HMRC kept my bushing kit for 4 weeks and I ended up paying £50+ for £24-99 bushes. Factor in keeping a stock of wear items when in stock.
I had a similar experience when I needed a new upper link on my hd4 pure has none and didn’t know when they would get them so had to order direct from ibis which takes a while and costs a lot in postage
on the positive side I did get a who new rear triangle on warranty via pure because of paint issues
I have one big gripe with my Ripmo mk1 - me 😀
Just don't ride the bloody thing - or any bikes at the mo.
Think I've probably done 200 miles tops on mine since finally getting it 16 months ago, after waiting 5 months to get it.
This isn't a sly for sale advert (honestly), as it isn't for sale. I will find the mojo (so to speak) and get back on eventually.
BTW, I'm 5' 11" with short legs and ride a large.
Feels very short after a regular geometry bike when sat down but comes into it's own when ridden fast and stood up.
Many thanks for all your thoughts, very useful to know.
Do any of you run the DVO fork and shock? If so, how are they? Is it worth paying the premium for Fox? A friend of mine told me that DVO is very much fit and forget and requires less maintenance than Fox - any truth in that?
I have the standard Fox 36 (non gold one) and DPX2 rear. Don't really feel the need for anything more although I run the shock at near maximum pressure as I'm a fat git and like a stiff rear end - oer missus.
have an AF. 6ft and went for XL. glad i did. feels perfect. i think a large would have been too small especially with the steep seat angle.
i liked the dvo diamond on everything but fast chatter where it would beat my hands silly! played with it a while but could never get it to feel how i wanted in the chatter and replaced it with an lyric ultimite.
on the other hand the dvo jade x has been brilliant! set and forget! just perfect!
bike climbs really well and descends even better. no real gripes only paint is easily marked (i got orange when silver would have been my choice now)
I have an AF and I bloody love it.
The cable routing for uk is crap though. Wrong side of the HT and a total mess by the BB junction.
I've got a Topaz/Onyx combo and it's fantastic. I spent ages trying to get my old 36 feel how I wanted,(in particular on chatter) and never got there. In an hour or so the Onyx was already feeling better. I am a light rider though, which can skew my experience with a lot of stuff! The rear was equally good. I've never really looked at climbing performance before as in not that sensitive to stuff like that and an very 'winch and plummet', however the AF blew me away with how well it just shot up things!
I'm hitting things faster and harder on the bike than I have on anything before. It's brilliant.
I'm 5'10 and a bit on a large and it fits like a glove.
2pure are, however, shite.
Glad to hear you're enjoying your experience with the Onyx/Topaz. I was originally going to go for the Fox Factory build, but it's out of stock.
I have to say had I realised how poor the UK agent was I wouldn’t have invested in one and looked for something closer to home. For example the upper linkage bushes are recommended to be checked for UK riding 4 times a year, seems little point when they have not been available for over a year. The actual bushes are available from Igus UK at a cost but should be free lifetime warranty from Ibis, try that one with the UK, if they had any, but my experience is the inserts wear also these are not covered under warranty. Not good to have a 5k bike sat in the shed idle for months. A great shame as it is an awesome bike.
@brennak, you should contact Ibis direct if you have issues with 2Pure. I did and everything moved quickly after that.
Really appreciate all the feedback everyone- many thanks! Hoping to pull the trigger on a V2 with a DVO Onyx and Jade X very soon.
I’ve had good service from Ibis direct in the states, they answer emails very quickly, unlike 2pure who take two weeks !
I’m guessing the way forward with the bushes is contact ibis directly.
I’m 510 ride a large af , great bike!!! onyx and jade x combo - size feels spot on for me , onyx is proving difficult on the small bump sensitivity but amazing on the rest , jade x is like a magic carpet although as a heavier rider 90kg I do want to try the new progressive spring which windwave have on order for me. My experience with 2pure has been poor , wind mwave for the dvo kit has been excellent. Based Home Counties if your close and want to swing a leg over
If Ibis USA can provide parts then why can’t the U.K. importer get them?
I think, like most distributors of non-eu kit, they fill a container once every so many months with stuff to cut down on the fees, I am guessing of course !
I can only say good things about 2Pure/IbisUK. Having ridden a Mojo sL since 2009 and had a warranty replacement frame after 2 years. Then a Ripley 2 which has had warranty replacement front triangle, rear triangle, clevis and also three carbon rims. I know that sounds like a lot of warranty repalcemtns but I ride a lot and hard and nothing seems to survive me more than a few years. Chris Kling BB for instance - I'm on my second warranty replacement since 2015.
2Pure/IbisUK have always been really good, though with my latest rear triangle, it did take longer but we were in the first lockdown. The rear carbon rims were a revelation as I bought the bike complete form 2Pure as a second-hand model, so I had to pay crash replacement fee for the first one (£250 instead of £600), but the subsequent rims have been free as I was the original owner
