Ripmo owners, how are the bushings / bearings holding up in the UK sludge?
Mine are good as new.
I've ridden it 4 times since August though, so *shrugs*
had a V1 carbon for 18 months and they were fine, have V2 now, I strip the frame down and inspect every 6 months.
I’ve done 1700 miles on mine, admittedly not many of those have been in the autumn/winter conditions as I’ve been mostly riding my HT then, but the bushings are still absolutely fine. The Ripmo af does come with free warranty replacement on the clevis and lower pivot bushings but I’ve read on other forums that the UK distributor can drag their heels on getting them in from Ibis, but my localish ibis bike shop said they’d not had any issues getting them.
No issues with mine so far. 1 year old and ride and clean through winter. I'm expecting them to last longer than any other FS I've had
My V1 is three years old in May. It's done over 4000km although I don't ride it through the most horrible parts of winter. It does get ridden often in the wet tho, including a very wet week in Finale.
I've inspected the bushings three times. Absolutely fine. The last time as they'd started to squeak a bit, but a thin film of oil stopped that. Even the upper bearings are okay (and they are right in the line of fire of the rear wheel). Ibis do a very cheap replacement rocker for the top 4 as they aren't meant to be serviceable.
My mechanic mate has had them out twice tho and we've just repacked them with new grease.
Reminds me I probably should pull my Ripley apart as that's a year old now and has had a lot of 'uk condition rides'
You can fit a RRP rear mudguard or - as in this case - butcher a front. It does work but you need to be careful it doesn't rub the paint off the chainstay bridge/lower rocker. If I refitted it, I'd chop the bottom off.
Alex has reminded me, the bearings in the upper link are the ones to keep an eye on. On my V1 they were pressed in badly and one was oval. Ibis sell a complete linkage but I just press them out and replace them.
Yep same @leegee. Not impressed with state of the originals. £45 for a linkage (assuming UK Disti has them) or catch them early and re-pack. Or replace with a set from MBBearings. Other suppliers are available 😉
Seeing as I checked my bearings and bushings at the weekend, I thought I'd update my findings.
All bearings and bushings still smooth as new. Even the axles had clean grease on them! My RAF is 14 months old. So I expect at this rate, the bearings will last, I'd say, 3 years, which is amazing.
2 caveats - I own a HT as well, so riding is split between both. However, I do ride the RAF throughout all weathers and ride twice a week.
I checked bearings a few months after getting the bike and would have greased the axles and most likely added marine grease to bearings (one side as other is blind)
