I need a utility trailer. It will be attached to a 2001 Stumpy HT.

It's only needed for journeys of say about ten miles or so. Dont want to spend much, say 100 quid.

Is this any good from Argos ?

Also, how do they attach to the bike ? Anybody got any close coupling pictures.

Ta Muchly.

Edinburgh Bike Co-op one was reviewed in Singletrack a couple of years ago:

I have an EBC one from two or three years back now. Decent piece of kit that I've cycle-toured on the road with (with camping gear) and done general load carrying duties. No experience of using it off-road.

It's an ok piece of kit, attaching to the bike via an extended replacement rear skewer. The single wheel is a little unstable under very heavy load and its impossible to stand the bike up/lean it against stuff with the trailer attached. Build quality is a bit iffy and I had some issues with the locking mechanisms on the trailer attachments.

If its bulky stuff like large boxes I would go with a two wheel such as that raleigh one as it'll be more stable and the load area is bigger. If you want to tour/ride off road I would have said a single wheel type like the EBC trailer probably better.

Mine no longer gets used as I do all my load carrying on a Kona Ute and haven't been touring in ages.

Only planning to ride to my nans. As I've ended up maintaining her house I need to only carry relatively light and small loads. Like the odd tin of paint and a toolbox. Possibly a hedge trimmer.

Big jobs I'll take the car and trailer.

second hand kiddy trailer then? The argos one seems to have the same bottom frame/wheels as the avenir kiddy one we had from them for £70. (Plus folk might think you have a kid in it and overtake more considerately.)

[edit] the argos one has a cast metal piece that sits on the outside of the LH dropout and you put your axle or skewer through it to fasten it on. Then you can leave this bit on and attach/disengage the trailer with a flexible joint that goes on with a 5mm wide pin. You need drouputs that are flat with 10mm+ space all round the outside, and not at all cowled to fit it on.

That's a raleigh/avenir mule that is!
I've got one, but the hitch on that one does look a lot better than the hitch that was on mine - i basically converted mine to a Burley hitch, which will be similar to that one.
I'm sure they can be had for less that £100?

Anyway, a very useful, simple trailer. Will carry about 40kg easily, and as it's a 2 wheeler it'll remain stable.

I'd go for it, or one similar....
