So I am trying to hook up a new m8000 shifter with my M785 brakes. They should fit, I think? But...

I have these:

And the lever mates with the shifter perfectly:

But the fixing bits don't fit in the lever?

Am I missing something?

I had the same, appears the bolts to for i-spec a and b used to come in the box, now only i-spec b nut in the box.

M8000 shifter can be bought either I Spec ii compatible or I Spec B, I imagine you have bought the former, your m785 brakes are I Spec B only

Sorry, trying to get pics to work.

But meanwhile... it definitely is an i spec B shifter and it definitely should hook up with the m785 lever.

Dean has it. I appear to have i spec B fitting bits, when I just need the simple I spec A nut and bolt?

Or not...?

I-spec B shifters are not compatible with I-spec II brakes.

You can buy some ProblemSolvers kit to fix that, but it will be expensive. It involves getting both the brakes and the shifter converted to SRAM Matchmaker (PS Mismatch 2.1 and PS Mismatch 1.2).

https://www.bike-components.de/en/Problem-Solvers/MisMatch-1-2-Adapter-p44706/
https://www.bike-components.de/de/Problem-Solvers/MisMatch-2-1-Adapter-p42125/

Better off buying clamped Shimano M9000 shifters :).

l.e. Cwap, got it the other way around. Still impossible but there are no ways to make it work that I see.

He's not got iSpec 2 brakes? My guess is you need this

Sorry, to be clear, I have an i spec B shifter, which should, in theory, hook with my i spec b levers. So M8000 i spec B shifter should hook with m785 (which is i spec B?) lever.

I think I am missing the 'top hat' nut from here:

Linky...

Why would shimano not supply it? really?!

Could be an older M785 lever which is I Spec A.

If you need I-spec A fixings I think you can get them.

Look at the shape of the brake lever, B is at the top, A below.

Antares. That is indeed the boy! Thank you.

Please would someone explain why Shimano don't supply this with the shifter? Seriously? Grr....

I-spec II shifters look like this, they are supposed to go under the brake lever collar. No amount of nuts and bolts will make them fit.

l.e. I-spec B with I-spec A, finally got it 🙁 .

No problem. I need to order one myself as I have an new m8000 I spec b shifter coming tomorrow and I need to fit to a Hope tech lever which you can't do with those iSpec b bolts.

That's right, the same one as in your Bike-Discount link.

EDIT - And that one above at SJS.

They only made I-spec A for a year or two so, in their infinite wisdom decided to stop supplying those parts.

Part no is Y6UV98090 - google it, and I'm sure you'll find a stockist.

Edit - beaten to it!

I guess they don't include those fittings as it's explicitly sold as I-Spec B, rather than I-Spec A/B.

Annoying though I appreciate!

Yep. That'll be it. They are early M785 levers so that will explain it. SJS order placed. £8.99. Ouch!

Lesson learned. Next time will go for bar mount!!

Oh well. Thanks all.
