Was stood socially distancing from my other half today on the North Downs.

Fair few bikers out today. Some are "cyclists" and others on bikes dug out of the back of the garage I would think. All good to see though.

Anyway...

Whilst chatting 2 guys stop near us (I mean in the sense of the new "near", about 5m away.) and whilst chatting I'm watching the 2 guys out of the corner of my eyes as him a nosey bugger.

The younger guy (20 something?) is on a full dh rig the "older" guy (late 40's?) on a ht. The young lad is is messy around on the bike whilst waiting for the other to faff and is patently very good on it. Then I hear him advising the older guy to manually lower the saddle, "yeah, that should do" etc etc.

Now, they are just about to head down a hollow way I broke my collar bone on some years ago just as the sun was going down and the tree canopy makes everything go that indistinct low contrast on the trail.

So, younger rider sets off wearing baseball cap and (very) dark shades... older followed behind wearing no shades or helmet.

Did I witness some sort of Covid provoked (f*&# the older generation locking us down!) homicide attempt here?

As a fellow "old" guy, I pray for you...

Did you venture down the hollow and inspect their carcasses, cos if you did that’ll teach em?

No,I suspect the YOUNG guy will have survived. He had good skillz, even with the shades on.

The "other" guy?

I'm not so sure. I'll see if that bit of the trail is a bit whiffy a few days from now.

Was at Hamsterly once on a hardtail asking a couple of teens with full face and body armour directions to some new bombcrater run.

They looked absolutely horrified and were quick to point out it wasn't XC 🙂

Felt like asking them if they'd feel more or less confident with another 20 years riding under their belt!

I saw an unfit looking family with kids, rusty old supermarket bikes, jeans and food in a plastic bag hanging off the handlebars setting off on one of the gnarliest xc tracks around in my local area (plenty of experienced riders avoid the place because the tech climbs and drops are notorious).

... i just didn't know how to explain this to them, but given it wasn't far off dark I should have tried really. I suspect they had either 5 minutes of hell and mosquitoes or 1 hour. I doubt they came back.

Last week on a super easy flat mtb track i found an experienced moto-x rider in the recovery position waiting in the dark for an ambulance. Broken nose, bleeding forehead and pains in his arms. I suspect he was travelling a bit faster, but he's been in hospital for a few days now (hopefully spine is ok). Just goes to show, experience only goes so far.

I absolutely know you still feel like you are in you're 20s though.lol

I think im going to forever feel like I'm late teens or 20's. That said,I wonder if when I'm in my 80's or older (I hope...) I'll look back at my 30's and 40's with fondness and relate to that age more?

Never actually though about that before. Hmmm..

56 and feel like that now. Had more fun playing in a band and riding bikes in my 30s and 40s than at any other time.

I wanna know who biggusdickus is! Must investigate, but I have my suspicions...

Best thing we saw in the weekend was an old fella (younger than me, but much older than my 17 year old) hurtling along the south Downs Way at warp speed.. every pedal stroke the chain went *crack* as it skipped a gear, not only that but it was a 26" wheel Giant bike and the frame at least 2 sizes too small for the geezer! Looked like he'd borrowed his toddler's bike! But he absolutely flew past us! Awesome sight 😀

Looks to me like Tdog had an issue with someone in the classifieds? Hope all is OK, but can't fault someone for getting out and riding more if that is the upshot..

“No new yes

Whats sort of trade value do you suggest the xbox has?

What makes you think anyone will pay more than 250 for an open xbox one x?
look at prices on gumtree. console with games going for 250-300
You think just because its ‘as new’? its second hand.

You’re dreaming

tdog 19th May 2020 at 1:35 am
🤣 It was £750 new purchased by me direct from Microsoft UK only 4 1/2 months ago with a maximum of 2hrs use

It’s not my fault you clearly cannot read
Like I said, walk on by

£455 couriered is what I am selling for
Don’t like DO NOT COMMENT
CHEERIOS!

Was putting it out there in case anyone actually has an iphone wanting a swap

Is that ok with you dear 👵🏼

biggus dickus 19th May 2020 at 1:41 am
I clearly cannot read? where in the description say what it comes with?

455? you must be thick if you think that anyone will choose to pay that kind of money when there are plenty on gumtree with 5 games going for a lot less.

I certainly am too MoreCash. I find myself getting annoyed by the stupidest things on here! But then I find it easy to just avoid them. Step away for an hour and the annoyance goes.
I say "on here" - every bloody where at the moment 😆

@tdog

Oi you daft Bugger! Get your arse back on here after you've come back from riding.

You do have a bloody good point though tdog, went out for a ride yesterday in the sun and I felt the best I have in a long while.

Lots struggling at the moment mate, me included. Get out riding but no need to burn your bridges on STW. Far more good vibes on here than bad.

FB, Twitter etc? Not a chance I could cope with the perpetual civil war on there so I just don't use them.

Stay safe buddy.👍

Another shout of support for @tdog. I think "don't let the b@$t@rd$ grind you down" is appropriate.

In relation to the OP, pre-lockdown I saw a woman ride down ther Steel City track in Grenoside on a step-through commuter bike.  It's by no means thre gnarled of tracks, but that bike definitely looked like it had ncreased thr gnar factor significantly!
