if you follow the signs from Grainau towards Eibsee and then Griesen you'll climb up along fireroads for an hour or so. the fireroad ends, the path mutating into a 1' wide singletrail and flattens out. it is nothing spectacular until you arrive on the other side of the mountain and the trail tilts downwards. a nice flowy, but again unspectacular trail, broken up with fallen trees....... but then, the trail goes down.... steeply. and is full of switchbakcs. 30+, one after another. 250m to the valley floor and loads of technical, tight hairpins. loads of rock, roots, drop downs.

[willywaving]was with a group of 8 other riders. i was the only one who wasn't carrying their bike down (although there were five turns i couldn't manage) and the girl back at the hotel thought i was super cool[/willywaving]

i really should have taken a photo, but it was SO good and the adrenaline was pumping... so i sort of forgot.

awesome weekend.

i'll be back there on May 7. i'll get a photo or some film then....

I did the Great Dunfell decent on Saturday (Cross fell its neighbour, is the highest point in the peninnes) 2,500 feet of decending with no gates,It just flows so well, maximum speed was 34 mph last time I did it,Its one decent that you cant get enough of once you have ridden it a few times,The braken is not through yet, and its dry and dusty.[IMG] [/IMG] four miles of this!

still buzzing today! 😛

alpin - not a fan of switchbacks so that doesn't sound too great to me 😛

GaVgAs - which way does that go off the top - one way is tarmac innit?

I rode uphill to a bothy, spent the night listening to people snoring and/ or screwing, cooked a fried breakfast and then rode back uphill again to the car :0

(Tees head marker stone)

The decent starts from Tees Head (Landranger map 91 GR339698) and decends to Wythwaite, when its dry, its one of the best decents i have ever done, after wythwaite the surface is clay/mud and not nice but the rest is very fast short grass with the technical sections near the top.

You really need good weather though as it can be tricky to follow on the ground, the first part near the top is bit of a bogfest as well, but gets better as the gradient falls away,As the bracken and grass gets taller it slows down the route a lot, so the next month or so is the time to do it 😉

best access would be the tarmac up dunfell and ride over the summit of little dun fell.

Hi David,

right, i've found a website that provides you with all the known trails from almost everywhere - looks like a good site: www.outdooractive.com

if you like tight, techy riding it might be worth the drive over one evening. as said, the trail isn't that exciting (though it is still good) until you reach the last section - you'll know when you reach it.

you could ride from Ehrwald/Obermoos from the Austrian side towards Hochthörlehütte. make your way around Eibsee and head north-west toward Griesen. i think it's the only trail that leads down to Griesen so shouldn't be too hard to miss. as said, the first section is broken up occasionally with fallen trees, but other than that it is all rideable. ah, look out for the photo op where a set of trees have been up-rooted and their roots and the soil they are attached to are hanging over the trail.

let me know if you ride it. as said, i'm back in the area on May 7. i'll try and see if any of the other guides want to give it a bash again and hopefully get something on film.

hope that helps.

J
