Possibly a couple days across the water in the Summer , any recommendations for a couple of nights, reasonably priced decent grub and secure bike storage?

Not sure if they have accommodation but the Taverners in Godshill is epic for food and drink. Central'ish too for getting around and well placed for the quieter roads and BWs along the south coast and middle of the island through Brightstone Forest etc.

I live here so can’t comment on accommodation specifically but can recommend areas and good pubs with accommodation

Any idea where you want to stay? Is it a bike only trip? MTB/road?

Chrishc - what would be your top 5 pub recommendations on the island? For food / family visit rather than a good old booze up..?

Thanks in advance.

cheddarchallenged - we holiday there a lot (few times a year) and are slowly working our way through most eateries on the island but the one we go back to every time we're there is the Taverners in Godshill. Brilliant food, child & dog friendly, loads of local beers on, beer garden out back with veg plot and playground etc. Yet to find anywhere else that comes close...

Oh good question!

Taverners, Godshill as mentioned above is really good. Possibly best food wise

Wight Mouse, Chale. Keep that one for a nice day, amazing views out towards west. Head up to St Catherine's viewpoint aftwerwards for local ice-cream

Spyglass, Ventnor. Right on the beach, very characteristic and good local seafood (apparently, don't eat fish myself). Go for the walk straight from the pub up the steep road and through the carpark to Steephill Cove

Bargeman's, Newport. This is my local and in Newport town harbour. Probably not worth the trip specifically but if you're in the area it's right in town but all you can really see is the river (well the dual carriageway is next to it unfortunately but it's not a nuisance)

Bugle, Niton. All round nice pub!

Bonus: 3 Bishop's, Brighstone. Nice pub but more importantly right by the best trails!

Loads of good pus in the towns of Sandown, Ryde, Newport, Cowes etc but these are nice ones in more rural areas you probably wouldn't stumble across and are worth making the trip for (there are many more)

Also a non-local but visit quite a lot. Other notable eateries/pubs we've been to recently:
The Pointer in Newchurch - good pub food
Yarbridge Arms - good pub food again
Off the Rails - Yarmouth (converted old rail station, good burgers but also cake/coffee)
Garlic Farm - good coffee/cake, meals look good
The Dell - cafe on the seafront at Seaview
The Cow - based at Tapnell Farm - excellent burgers
Chessell Pottery Cafe - good coffee/cake stop and great bacon sarnies too
Biddlesford Farm - again, good coffee/cake and nice Sunday roasts too

Re: The Spyglass above - we went last summer and the location is great with lovely views but food was quite average in comparison to some of the above (and a similar price).
