You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
.... I purchased a singlespeed MTB 🙂
Not sure what the gearing is on it yet, to busy playing on it, but I've found it spins out fairly easy on level ground. Is this normal? What's a good compromise on front/rear cog sizes?
unless you live near excessively steep hills you won't be walking up them, in fact you'll be getting up them quicker than your geared friends.
but you'll still be a singlespeeder weirdo.
2:1 is a good starting point.
I'm lazy and have a heavy bike so at SSWC I ran 32:20 while others were running much higher gearing.
Try a few and just run whatever suits you and your hills
2:1 on a 26er (eg: 32:16), slightly less on a 29er for the bigger wheel. 32:18 seems about right but then I got a Tazzy cheaters ring so now I'm 34:19. I are awesomer than you though.
Forgot to say, it's a clown wheeled Swift 🙂
me too, now looking for walking shoes online

I like 34-16 or 34-14 for east midlands riding. So nice to have a silent bike isn't it? 😀
