I'm off to ride Penmachno tomorrow but leave later this afternoon. The forecast is for wet weather.

I currently have two wheel/tyre combinations to choose from as my wife isn't going.

So I currently have Racing Ralphs front and rear on my Crests or could swap to Nobby Nics on Arches (but would need to change rotors, cassette and hub adapter).

Should I bother changing (I've not been to Penmachno before).

They're 29er by the way.

Thanks - I don't have much time to decide as I'd have to get going immediately if I want to change.

Stick with your Ralphs. They'll be fine.

Cheers. I couldn't afford to wait so put a Nic up front.

Why not swap the tyres over on the wheels rather than take spare wheels?

Do people really change tyres for specific rides (apart from races)? Mine just stay on all year round until they are worn out.

as per grum.

mine stay on until after they are worn out. then they have another 6-12 months ripping to shreds while i convince myself they are good for a few more rides.

I was planning on swapping the wheels as the Arch/Nic combination is more all mountain for gnarly rides. I only thought about swapping as I have the choice and am a bit concerned about the front sliding out in some conditions but I don't have that much experience to know what's best.

Anyway what I've done should be fine and at least if out riding with my wife we will have the same combination.

I tend to use well worn tyres when its dry, and something with a bit more tread with its muddy.
CBA with swapping tyres every time I go for a ride.

I tend to put new tyres on for winter, then use them through the summer with reduced tread until winter comes again.
