It's a boring question I know but , My freehub is knackered and the bearings despite being changed are pretty rough on my Shimano RS30's. I'm strapped for cash so I'm looking at these for a new wheelset but kinda concerned by the spoke pattern. I'm around 13 stone and do about 4000 miles per year. Your thoughts and alternatives please.

Never thought of Aksium's , I desire Fulcrum 3's or Kysyrium's but the bank balance says 'No'.

Mavic wheels have a 100kg max rider weight, the limit for Campag is higher

I've run some campag scirrocos for ages that have G3 spoking and have been great

far better than Askiums, and Vento's are a step up from them IIRC

Thanks for the Info Big n Daft , I'm just under 13 stone so well within the limit. Pretty sure the Aksium's are cup 'n' cone like the Campag's and both have the nippy bladed spokes.
To be fair I cant expect much at an under £200 wheelset but thanks for the advice.

Campag max is 105 kg and we suggest more frequent checks for riders over 85kgs.

Bearings in the Vento are sealed cartridge, though for 2015 they are adjustable with a screw-locked preload collar (rather than friction-locked as Mavic tend to use).

If you can stretch to £220 or so, Campag Scirocco 35s are hard to beat - otherwise the new Ventos are a great wheel, very lively for their price.

I'm biased working as tech-rep for Campag but I know the guys at Mavic UK well and would not say anything negative about the Aksiums - they have been around a long time as a model and they are also well-known as a bomb-proof piece of kit ...

All Campagnolo wheels are constructed to meet the highest standards of resistance and durability.
If you weigh over 109 kg/240 lbs we advise you not to use this product. Non compliance with this warning can damage the product irreversibly. If you weigh 82 kg/180 lbs or more, you must be especially vigilant and have your bicycle inspected more frequently (than someone weighing less than 82 kg/180 lbs).
Check with your mechanic to discuss whether the wheels you selected are suitable for your use, and to determine the frequency of inspections. Using tires with a larger diameter and a frame that respects the standards will help to increase the lifetime of the wheels.

I'm heavier and have not had issues with sciroccos or racing 3's

recently bought Rolf Prima's as they don't have a weight limit

I bought a pair of these for my cycling buddy to try on the basis that if he didn't think they were any good, I would keep them as winter wheels:

Now on sale for £195: http://www.bikeradar.com/road/gear/category/components/wheel-sets/product/review-superstar-components-pave-28-14-48292/

He was blown away by them and agreed to buy them straight away.

I wouldn't worry too much about the weight limit on Aksiums, I ride them on my cross bike, I weigh 17stone and I've hurled them round the Carron Valley trails, small drop offs etc, with no problems at all.

If they can handle that, they'll handle road use.
