I've had the shifter for 5 years. It's Sram Red so it's about time for it to start self destructing as it seems to be too lightweight to last. Anyway, the shifter lever snapped on the road and the spring disappeared. I ordered a new lever, but it didn't come with a spring. Without the spring, when I pull the brake lever and let go, it returns to neutral position but the shifter lever stays in the 'pulled' position close in to the bars as there's no spring to return it to neutral. I have looked high and low on the internet but can't seem to see a replacement or anything similar that I could order. It looks like some replacement levers come with them and some don't 🤷🏻‍♂️. Does anybody know where I could find one? shifter lever

All the sram internals are the same, I know this as I bought some cheap rival hydro shifters and swapped over the levers and internals. Those springs are fiddly!
So a non working cheap shifter will have a spring you can use. Can’t offer you my spare (from a stripped banjo shifter) as I might need it one day.

Yeh I'm keeping an eye out for a cheap one. Had a spare left shifter as the shifter lever snapped on it and I was able to get a cheap replacement shifter on ebay, but the spring is the wrong shape... and when I tried bending it to the shape it needed to be it also broke 😭

I may have the internals/lever from a dead 10speed Rival lever in the Garage... Let me check.

I knackered the spring on an XT brake lever, so I wrapped a long rubber band thing (the sort that mounts lights) round it.
Works perfectly still years later. You could try similar until the part appears.

Nope, had a rummage in the Garage I think it might have been chucked during the last purge... Sorry.

Thanks for looking cookeaa!
Good idea jkomo, not sure how I could get something like that to work as the spring is pushing the lever out to neutral. But could maybe put a small elastic band type thing around the brake lever and shifter lever up high on the shifter lever that might keep them together but still let the shifter lever move side to side. Will have a go.

Not quite the same issue for me but I have SRAM Force shifters on my CX bike. The plastic carrier that holds the shifter cable nipple in place broke in the autumn, so the cable just slipped through leaving me stuck on the smallest sprocket.

Because they don't sell spares the cheapest option I could find to replace it was to buy a Rival or Apex shifter for around £100 and perform keyhole surgery on it. So I opted instead to glue the cable in with epoxy.

It's held all winter, but I'm trying not to think about what might happen when it's time to replace the cable.

Yeh I've seen that happening before! With the failure rate of the Sram shifters I'm sure there are plenty sitting around or have ended up in the bin that we could've salvaged parts from 😢
