You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Unfortunately my steel hardtail is cracked and not economically repairable.
While I'd love s carbon Scott spark, it's not going to happen this side of a lottery win so I'm Looking for a new hardtail. 29er. XC
Not something slack and low, don't really get on with that. Prefer my riding to be on undulating singletrack, and like the ups too. The downs tend to look after themselves. Found the lls a bit too much of a compromise on the trails I ride.
Considering a sonder dial, or something simple like a trek marlin. Will be built up with 100-120 sids, xc wheels (can do qr or thru). Tend to be between l and XL on most at 6'2, but have short legs so need good standover, hence looking at the trek. It's got good reviews, pretty compliant, so not like a lot of the more trail orientated hardtails.
However, as always, anything else to consider?
Budget is £500 tops.

Missed out 'frame' in the title. :-/
Are your parts boost? If not the alu Trek Superfly is a cracking xc bike. You would probably get a complete bike quite cheaply.
I had a superfly once, bright yellow thing. QR or 142 convert dropouts in 21.5/20.5.
I liked it, but although it was long enough, it felt like a bit of a gate. Problem with being in between sizes. :-/
Wouldn't dream of a proper 21', I'd be hitting my knackers off the top tube.
Been scouring eBay too...
To answer your questions though. Parts are QR or 142. Have a boost converter too somewhere though.
I could just about go 141qr and go with an x-caliber. But not much benefit over the marlin tbh.

Buy a full bike from planet x as a) they are in stock and b) they are cheap c) they have a sale on.
On one whippet or scandal.
Then sell the wheels, drive train, forks and finishing kit the frame will come in under £500.
I’d have thought the Sonder Dial option would be the easiest, if you have some option to adapt your existing rear wheel to fit the boost spacing?
