But do you need to ask me every time I click on anything?

Please STW computer guys, I know there were teething problems with the new site but it's still horrible to browse. This forum is a great resource but my god it's tedious to use.

Trainerroad launched a new forum recently. Not only does it work but it has some cool features like being able to skip along the timeline.

A working search and older threads having posts in the right order would be awesome.  Agree that the nag screen is very annoying!   Sadly this forum isn’t half the destination for reliable information it used to be because of the search and timeline problems.

And a proper history of threads you have contributed to to see if they have progressed. Not looking for anything too fancy, just as good as the bad old forum would be a start.

And an option to invisiblize posts rehashing old memes presented as if witty responses to posts.

And some vegan recipes.

And a more zen font.

And...

It's actually impressive just how primitive this forum is in comparison to others I visit.

Biggest gripe for me is no "go to first unread post". I mean, every other forum I've ever used has it. It must have been some feat of programming to not have it...

I love how on mobile there used to be a link at the bottom of each page that took you back to forum overview in one tap but they got rid of it, and now you have to give the page a swish to bring up a faint, translucent arrow thing, click that, then watch the whole page swoosh down like a roller blind back to the top, then look about for 'overview' amongst a load of other links, click that, then go to the overview finally.

No really...It's perfect. Love progress me... Doing that after reading every single thread is just ace. 👌

Had to do a factory reset on my tablet, and now I get this message about one in ten times I open a page on here.

It's FUBARed like no other site I use. It really is quite an achievement.

I used to do a fair bit of browsing on my phone, but i no longer do because it causes the cpu to go through the roof and the phone itself to become hot to touch. The battery percent value drops like a stone. i tried it the other day thinking it might have fixed itself, it hasn't.

Agree on the search facility, used to work really well and the google site search also.

Iphone 6 on chrome. safari too.

Does this forum ruin spellcheck for anyone else or is that just me?

I hope either:

A) Steam Amp are paying ST a small fortune for all the advertising every time it pops up.

B) Steam amp are being blackmailed "pay up or we'll tell everyone the new forum is your fault" mwahahahahahaaaaa.

Either way I expect lots more sunny travel features in the mag.

And the random thread function is really getting on my tits. Click on a thread, and it picks a hyperlink at random!

(I didn't intend to revisit this thread if you hadn't guessed)

The mods will defend, the owners make excuses, but the forum is a complete mess and I’d be embarresed to have it ok my CV if I was a web type person.

For me:

Forum reloads every time you go back to the thread list. Every. Chuffin. Time. And it’s incredibly slow to load. I went to my local newspaper site and it took less than half the time even though it’s a typical click bait site with a million adverts on it. I sometimes have to click on a thread 5 or 6 times to get into it as another bit of the page will load causing the click to go somewhere other than intended

No search facility. I mean come on, people were doing this well and often 10 years ago.

People still have problems copying and pasting.

Find an older thread, open it up and all the posts are jumbled up. I know nothing about web programming but surely every post has a time stamp so all you have to do is set it so they display in time order. How hard can it be?

if I thought a P would help I’d get one, but if the techy people can’t even get the basics right then I can’t imagine having a P will make a world of difference - or does it make all the crap programming go away?

2 defend there, the forum has 2 search boxes there, one does forum one does site, much better than the older shit ones used to be if you know the thread title generally.

Not much else seems fixed though, I'm watching the Our Forum Thread for regular updates

I really, really love how on mobile, the page jumps about as all the pictures and ads load, so I pause, wait until I think its ready, and then quickly tap the link.  Except I think one of those 'we value your privacy' prompts must have given access to my camera, so as my finger is millimetres from the screen, the page moves and I end up clicking the wrong thread.

I'm sure back when I had a dabble in website building in about 1998, you could tell your website the final layout so things didn't move about as they loaded over a 56kb dial-up...

I'm sure that the forum does integrate better with the website as intended, but I haven't noticed any effort to promote the rest of the website (news etc) from the forum itself (perhaps through advert style links but they were there on the old forum) and I rarely visit those other areas of the forum, so I haven't benefited either way.

Be fair though. The developers spent most of the year coming up with the new classified section that everyone was demanding. Don't you remember all those threads asking for it? I'm sure you'll find them all if you do a search...

Oh will you seriously GTF!!!

4 pages and "we value your..." as well as the " subscribe for...." popups on every single page!!!

Beyond not being even remotely funny.

This site is a standing joke elsewhere for how badly not to do a website/forum.

Despite readily available off the shelf software that gives vastly superior options, quoting, commenting, etc someone in their vastly superior experience chose this abortion to run not only a forum on but what is supposed to be their business model that is supposed to pay their mortgage.

Either somehow this cock-up is doing that despite everyone here who does this for a living having no idea how OR they actually DGAS about any of the users who have over the last 10+yrs made their business become just that.

Edit - 8 pages not including this edit and "we value your" bollocks on every single one

So my Google pixel 2 and I need to use some other browser to use only this forum.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

I will pay for P if someone will guarantee it'll work properly everytime and as soon as it doesn't I'll have my subscription returned in full.
