... but why does cleaning my bike make me so happy?
Been riding a lot on the road on my skinny tyre beast over the last week or so and this morning I stood outside in weather that was at the interstice of drizzle and cloud, sprayed it with dilute Fairy, hosed it off, brushed it and repeated and then lubed the appropriate bits.
And I did it humming happily to myself.
Inside my 'studio area' is a tip and I get no pleasure from tidying that.

Doouble whammy of now getting to ride a bike in a bit that is set up perfectly and I recycled into rags another t-shirt I would probably be wearing in 5 years if I didn't cull them like this.

This should be the title of a song.

Use proper car washing stuff rather than Fairy, but I agree.

Bike cleaning and maintenance is one of life’s simple pleasures.  Good for my mental health as well.  In fact this morning got my bike out to just fettle it.

Yes ... One thing I love about having a 'Sunday best' or summer road bike is being able to keep it spotless fairly easily. I'd be the same about the SS MTB but it's futile, it's almost never clean. Still nice to keep it in simple running order under all the dirt.

There was a time where I sometimes stripped a brake calliper down to clean it "just because"

Now I just hoi it in the basement and get on with more interesting stuff 😀
