Modifying bikes to do high speeds on public rights of way will impact on my riding by getting bikes banned. For example...

I'm not racist, but why not get some kind of motocross type bike instead?

Certainly doesn't sound "safe"

I don't care what form of transport it is but when it's referred to as a beast you can expect the owner to be a weapons grade knob.

I understand 'The Beast' is what the POTUS's car is known as.

So you may be right.

You're absolutely correct OP. I've said it before and I'll say it again; Ebikes will be the death of MTBing in the countryside. You can kiss goodbye to your hopes of open all access, soon MTBs will be consigned to trail centres only.

All it'll take is one of these lads from the council estate to save up enough money to buy a powerful battery, then you've got yourself an eighty mile per hour silent killer.

They need to be licensed and insured, sooner rather than later.

Once more the few have the potential to ruin it for the masses - and they don't give a damn. 🙁

David the folks Rocketdog links to are total dicks and heading for a Darwin award .
legal emtb`s are the same as your bike well nearly , and one day you will be old and maybe have fubared knees but still want to ride the trails so thanks for the suggestion that I need to licence and insure my legal ebike .

dont use this thread as an ebike knocking tool but do use it as a dickhead illegal modding knocking thread

No mater how much "power" he thinks he'll have he'll not be doing 80 on any bridleway.
Tit's are tits best to just ignore them.

I don't know, I find the idea of watching a bike with two hub motors going over rough terrain at 80 mph very interesting.

I've always wondered what would happen if you reversed the sprung to unsprung mass ratio.

Saw a chav/ned type in Harrogate (of all places) a few weeks ago crossing the road on a bike (old MTB looking affair) with an engine. An actual engine of the petrol variety. Petrol tank looked like something off an old James or something. Plenty of 2 stroke oil was obvious by the copious amounts of blue smoke. He crossed the road & took off down the footpath towards B&Q/Pets at Home (for you's on here who know it) at a fair rate.

I think it was Richard. (Cranium)

I think we should all chip in to help him achieve his aim, then go out and cheer him on.

Yep, I'd pay to watch that. It's terrifying enough hitting 30.

Licensing is almost always not the answer, as the people you are targeting, are precisely the people who will not give a toss about not having a licence.

The percentage of assholes always is the same.
In cars.
On bikes.
On donkeys.
In airplanes
And on eBikes.

But my impression: the eBikers are the old, lamer ones. Going by car as close as they can to the top of the mountain. Unloading the eBike. Sitting soon in the bar.

Not too much hassle to me so far. They don't cross my trails (guess they are too narrow for eBikes).

The fun thing with a modded eBike will be trying to stop from 50mph with bicycle brakes.

Darwin will be proud. 🙂

Yeah, I always laugh at those cop chase programmes where they lead the police a merry dance, admit they've never had a driving licence ever and then get a one year ban from driving 🙄

I know it's not really enough but it does at least get them off the road for a year.

😉

+1 and policing it

The worst thing about that is the saddle angle!

A lot of dramatic responses. If the person trying to ride an e-bike at 80mph doesn't care about the law then they would do the same on a motocross bike or any other form of transport.

If they do get spotted and caught then they will get prosecuted. It has no impact on cyclists future use of the roads and trails..

Not an ebike, but I'm currently storing this for the local track club.

Fixed gear and apparently it'll do 60, I've been too scared to take it out for a spin yet!

Same Antony Pye?

Antony suffers from psychosis and was homeless for a long period of time after being kicked out of his parents’ house. After staying in different places including a tent, a boat and a garden shed, he now finally has a flat of his own. “I do not want anybody experiencing what I had to,” he says, “I want to help those who are in need by the distribution of survival goods starting off with survival blankets with art on them.”
