can people tell me the pros and cons apart from extra weight and cost. I've heard patching holes can be difficult but surely if you wipe the tube well the glue/patch should stick OK?
If you are using sealant anyway, why not just go full tubeless?
i'm intending to on some other builds but haven't got round to it yet
Some people don't like slime but I can honestly say it does work. It won't fix slashes but holes off thorns etc are no bother.
My riding buddy used to get flats all the time and I eventually talked him in to using some and he managed near a 1000 miles without a flat.
When the slime eventually runs out or you do get a puncture you will see all the green dots on the tube each one was a puncture.
I'm tubeless now on my mtbs and wouldn't go back however my cx is still tubes with slime in.
Got to say I'm sold on tubeless BUT for various reasons I'm just building up a "second hand special" winter bike.... It has Slime inner tubes in. They weigh a tonne (29er tubes especially!) but I know from using them previously they do work pretty well.
I get a lot of punctures where I live. I used Slime tubes years ago and still got a lot of punctures. The only tyres I can use with tubes and not get punctures are Marathon Plus and you really don't want to be using those as they are horrible to ride on.
Switched to tubeless a few years ago on MTB and had one puncture that would not seal in 3 years.
Now switched to tubeless on 25c road and off-road (with pretty tough tyres) and going equally well.
tubes feel horrible on a mtb, as long as the tyre and rim combination works I’d say less than 1% of people would go back to tube.
