I have an On-One Whippet. It’s really nippy. I’d like to see just how quick I can make it, so I’m thinking of trying some really low profile slim tyres on it.
The bike came with WTB 30 tyres. On the WTB website it says these can be used with 42 mm tyres for ‘gravel use’: https://www.wtb.com/pages/tire-rim-fit-chart
Has anybody tried such a thing? What’s the smallest tyre you’ve used on a wide rim? Will I die?

Do you mean i30 rims?
No need to go super skinny with the tyres, just chuck some Vittoria Terreno Dry on it.
I ran 35s on some 29mm I'd rims.
It was OK for a plod but leaning into corners was terrifying.

Oops, that is indeed what I meant.
I have thought of Terreno Dry, I might give that a shot.
44mm tyres on 30mm rims is fine for me, no issues at all
just chuck some Vittoria Terreno Dry on it.
I've got 2.1 Mezcals as occasional touring/gravel tyres, and they're alarmingly fast on hardback. A Terreno Dry would be fab..
Check on Rolling resistance site - there's many an XC tyre that's within a watt or three of Roady tyres.

Indeed - forget narrow. Just get some Race King Protections.

Fastest tyres I had on my Whippet was 2.1" Racing Ralph and Ray combo.
Still allowed the bike to do what it was built for (it is a mtb when al said and done) but, sure moved along on gravel and tarmac with them.
I had some 42mm resolutes on some 35mm rims, makes the surface very flat so transitioning to the edge was "interesting" and the sidewalls stuck out further than the tread so not good if you ride in Slate or flinty areas
I've just looked at Rolling Resistance site.
A Continental GP5000 in 34mm flavour is 2watts less rolling resistance at high pressure than a Thunder Burt Addix at 35psi - I can't see the higher pressure ratings.
Vittoria Terreno Zero. I run them on my gravel bike in 650b. Really fast tyre

That's what I have at the moment. They are fast, but they feel kind of heavy, and they accelerate slowly (of course) compared to the 40mm tyres on my gravel bike.
I just thought it might be fun to see what the Whippet was like with slimmer tyres, but maybe it really is a daft idea.
Got some Maxxis Rekon Race on mine at the moment. Though it's too wet out for them.
