Current setup on my 160mm FS 29er is DHF 2.6" Maxterra EXO+ Front / High Roller 2.5" Maxterra Double Down Rear
That's worn out and i'm thinking about what to get next
I'm not a fan of the DHF, i'm after a bit more bite and grip.
High roller has been OK, it's got sketchy on offcamber/muddy at times - The double down bit has worked as i've not had any punctures

Like to keep tyres on all year round, generally ride around West Yorkshire, with occasional trips to BPW, Ard Rock etc.

Currently looking at
WTB Verdict Light/High Grip + Judge Tough/High Grip
Schwalbe Magic Mary Super Trail / Big Betty Super Gravity
Assegai Maxxgrip WT / DHR2 DD Maxterra WT [Does this exist? I can only see a Maxgripp DD WT available]
Michelins? - Can't decipher their tyre choices and they look really heavy/draggy

Anything else?

Not had much time on them but I've got Assegai Maxxgrip WT DD front and Minion DHR II WT Maxxterra DD on the rear - really good combo, not light but better than the Michelin Wild Enduro Gum-X as they seem less draggy.
The Assegai has ridiculous grip!

Assegai Maxxgrip WT DD front and Minion DHR II WT Maxxterra DD on the rear

This is what I'm swapping to (from DHF/Rekon combo) but in EXO+ (I'm not big or clever)... the DHRII is on, and ace... not found the front tyre yet.

Assegai front in exo 3c Max terra and Dhr2 2.3” exo 3c is a good all round combo I think. 3c dhr2 wears out quickly in the summer / on loadsof hardpack though so if you can go dual compound that’s be decent too.

I liked the wild enduro gum x front - I feel like it’s between a dhf and a magic Mary. Didn’t find it wildly draggy - but I haven’t tried the rear as I think the dhr2 is probably better.

I’m happy to run mixed tyre brands to get the best combo for me. You maybe a tart.

My setups are:

FS summer - DHF 2.5wt exo 3c front / Rekon 2.6” Exo+ 3c rear with a rimpact.

FS Winter - hillbilly 2.6” grid trail T9 front / dhr2 2.3” Exo 3c

HT Summer - DHF 2.5” exo 3c front / Slaughter 2.6” Grid Gripton with a rimpact

HT Winter - 2.6” Magic Mary Apex Snakeskin addix soft front / Forekaster 2.6” exo 3c with Rimpact

Schwalbe Magic Mary Super Trail / Big Betty Super Gravity

I have this combo (but with soft - orange stripe - Supergravity casings front and rear) the Big Betty is a seriously chunky tyre, 1400g on my scales (the Mary is 1300 in SG)

Bike-components.de are the only people I've found who even list a DD maxxTerra but they won't ship to the UK.

Yep, absolutely a tart on this. Single brands only 😀

WTB Verdict Light/High Grip

This on the front 100% (and I've had all the front tyres on your list).

If you're a brand tart then try the Judge on the rear, but I can't vouch for that.

If you're open to mixing brands, I'd go Michelin Wild Enduro rear. Rolls quicker than it looks.

Yep for all year round, assegai/dhr2 is great. The assegai struggles to clear when it gets proper sticky though, I relented in feb for a few weeks and put a gen 2 shorty up front, dhr2 remained though.
Had SG magic mary/big betty combo on the hardtail and that did the same sort of job, slightly more biased to the wet seasons and heavy but I don’t think you can go wrong with either of those combos if you want to keep them on all year round.

Must have matching brand - so
Mary front (grippiest one or Supertrail with an insert like Tannus tubeless)
Rear, Big Betty.

Or DHR f&R Maxx grip compound front

Michelin Enduro rear works well for me (Mary front) I’ve not tried the front. Might suit you. Price seems good.

I think the front Michelin is better than the rear.

I'm sort of settled on them as a pair touch heavy though

I have the WTB combo the OP refers too on my heavy duty set of wheels.

Both tyres are north of 1,300g but roll surprisingly well. Both have deep aggressive treads. High grip does wear fairly fast. More so than Maxxgrip.

I run them with low pressures and rimpact. Grip is ridiculous but the downside of thicker more stable sidewalls is that they feel pretty harsh on hardpack.

Although Conti Verticals is a great shout too

As others have said, Mary on the front, Betty on the back, both in super trail guise (with cushcore on the rear.) can’t go wrong.

Thanks for the input folks.
I've gone with the assegai / dhr combo.

Managed to find an assegai maxxgrip exo+ and dhr 2 maxxterra double down at Lordgun. Neither of those specific models seem available here in the UK, but looks like I have been able to get them in from Italy

Tbh the maxxis combo was last on my list, but it's ended up being a bit of better the devil you know.
