For summer use.  I'm getting fed up of digging thorns out of my knuckles.

Any thin summer gloves would let thorns in anyway.

So.. how do we avoid thorns? I blame 780mm wide bars on 700mm wide trails.

Considered enduro handguard things? Might help. But look naff

I tend to go with the Troy Lee Airs

I've got some ancient Pearl Izumi summer gloves that do a reasonable job of fending off gorse bushes.

I can't see the exact equivalent now but there does appear to be a Pearl Izumi 'Summit Pro' glove that does a similar job if you can find it in the UK.

What about 700mm bars on the 700mm trail? Or those handguard things.

I’ve put them on both my MTBs after a broken finger last year (not what you want as a bassist!) They look weird at first but I’ve got pretty used to them now - and although my arms have been shredded by this summer’s explosion of brambles, my hands have been fine!

Feel nice but no good against thorns.

I've found moto-x shops usually have a decent selection of gloves suitable for biking.

I don't get the trend for massive bars. There's got to be a trade off of perceived control vs. practicality of fitting through tree gaps or undergrowth.  700mm for the win!

Unless you ride on generally wide open areas.

It's lls and short stems. Then in order to maintain control you end up with wide bars.

What about 700mm bars on the 700mm trail?

I've got three bikes, one has 710mm and one 720mm bars. The 780mm one was destroyed wide bars and the frot wheel weighs probably over 2kg so it needs a bit of leverage.

Just need moar awesum skillz maaan - it's a combination of leaning bike over and going through gap at the right angle so first side goes through, lean other direction other side goes through. Might be impractical at high speed 🥴

+1 for giro DND gloves. Heavier duty than thin summer gloves, but hands don’t feel like they get too warm and offer more bramble protection. Pretty indestructible, unlike pretty much ever pair of fox or endura gloves I’ve had in the past 5 years which have started to fall apart in a month or so of use

Dislocated pinkie and insanely overgrown trails here, leaning to avoid overgrowth not an option. A few rides in with the AVS handguards and whilst I'm not keen on the looks they really do work. Price of them for what they are is insane though, at half the price they'd still be expensive

Try 100% Cognitos - thin over most of the area for summer - but has d30 armour across the knuckles. Fairly subtle looking (not plastered with Troy Lee style luminous plastic crap) but does the job nicely.

Cheap at the moment at Wiggle if they have your size

The military have gloves with tough knuckles and they wear them in tough desert environments so I imagine they are breathable. I think I remember Oakley made some for military in the past.

Worth checking online because the kit will be very durable.
