Just sampled the new Steel City track at Greno woods. Well **** me that's a fast and fun bit of track considering the elevation isn't all that. Only thing I've ridden similar is BMCC.
I am well aware these short machine built tracks are not everyone's cup of tea. Nice to see us northern monkeys getting more of these high speed (with optional big jumps) types of trail!
Was there for Steel City DH, looked to be running really well.
Can't wait for my shoulder to fix itself so I can have a go. May get a full-face helmet after seeing some guys face/mouth on the Rise Sheffield Facebook page after coming off their whilst using a normal trail helmet!
Not surprised there's been a few nasty offs given how fast and flowy it is. Amongst the fastest berms I've been round.
I'm used to pump tracks BMX tracks etc but on a mountain bike sometimes you really have to wring it's neck to get the most out, not on this track though. If you have pumped everything you are absolutely flying by the mid section and it's just about how much bottle you've got!
Stoned as a boot but sums it up well.
Finally ridden the not-so-new track today. What an amazing job they've done. It is the best it's ever been, in my humble opinion. It flows so nicely, and the lines to avoid the gap jumps are now more obvious, and actual lines, rather than seeking afterthoughts.
The thread title is bang on. I consider myself a totally average rider, but I felt like Loic Bruni today! You really have to concentrate hard to brake appropriately, you pick up speed really easily on the smoother surface.
It was a fun hour or so. Cannot wait to go back!
This reminds me I haven't been up there since before the Screaming Dreamcrusher was born. Sorry, I mean our first child. I really need to check it out.
I'll be going slow on a black Norco if anyone sees me.
You really do @sharkattack! It's so much fun. And way, way easier on the body than it used to be. I managed five or 6 runs in the time I was there. About an hour and a quarter, I think. And I felt like I could have stayed a fair while longer.
And lol at Screaming Dreamcrusher!
