As above.

I have a 2011 Trance X frame; I have cleansed the discs, tried new pads, swopped the discs to new wheels, prayed, tried bedding in pads properly and still the devil is inside.

I don't know if this is just the frame, but the 180mm rotor makes a hell of a sound. Is it worth ditching and trying floating rotors? It feels like vibration so wonder if it could be a warped to disc.

If it makes any difference, they are the Shimano 180mm discs on slx brakes I think. Post mount frame.

I've had this with several sets of Shimano brakes. It's apparently caused by fluid leaking in minimal amounts from the pistons, contaminating the pads and discs. You can bake the discs in the oven and clean with IPA when they emerge and then clean the pads with VERY hot water and fairy liquid. I did this and it helped for a few rides, but eventually returned. I've swapped to Hope brakes and rotors and have had no problems in over 2 years.

Check the discs closely. If it says 'resin pad only' on them, make sure you've not got sintered ones on, they're noisy on the wrong discs. I find proper Shimano pads are better than anyone else's too.
Other than that, how have you degreased the discs?
But yeah, if none of that works, buy a new calliper. They aren't too much xpnsive and come with pads.

Thanks for the advice all; I am going to work through the suggestions above one by one. No time after work at the moment.

I have used brake cleaning spray to clean the discs - with fresh pads fitted. I will need to get baking though.

Yup, I've seen some Giants of this era with this problem. As Daffy said, the Shimano brakes they came with seep oil from the calipers and contaminate the pads. You mention that you had tried new pads - I'm willing to bet the problem went away with them, but then returned a week or two later.

Shimano did warranty the calipers back in the day, but probably a bit too far in the past now. Honestly, ditch the brakes and stick something else on. We swapped for some Deore ones and never looked back.
