So this afternoon I pull into the packed Glentress carpark, and spot a space which some chap is standing in the middle of with his bike. When I ask him if he can move he tells me that hes keeping it for his mate who is apparently just on his way...turns out hes a few cars behind me as it happens.
When I tell him he can't reserve a spot, he replies 'oh yes he can' and short of either running him over or picking a fight with him theres not a huge amount I can do about it.
I assume I'm not alone in thinking his actions were those of a selfish bellend, or is this standard etiquite in GT since they royally f'd up the parking arrangements there?

Suppose he was right then, you can reserve a spot after all 😉
So why didn't you just run him over then? 😉
Chap out, wee on his shoes and watch him dance away at top speed. 🙂
Seriously, never heard anything quite so sad in my life.
What bike did he have, so I can build up another prejudice?
ha ha...i assume some people arent as gratious as me however!
Whats the problem with the parking?
FWIW I would just shrug it off & chill out - aint worth getting yer knicks in a twist..
Orange 5...
probably....
😉
I guess you could park up in front of the space so while you can't get in, neither can the chap who has reserved it. It then becomes a battle of wills / test of who is most willing to waste their time.
ooo was getting all excited then as that would be a marvelous idea..
You should have just sat there until he moved.
Dick (him).
Or keyed his and his mate's cars while they rode "no you can't reserve a space here, or if you do, this will happen again 😡 "
i'd have just shrugged it off unless feeling grumpy and then i'd have asked which car was his and parked to block it in
you can't win that - assuming he's enough of a [s]git[/s] cynicAl ( 😉 ) to key your car and you're not enough of one to key his
there's nothing like a bellend ruining your day
Driving into the car park of a busy N wales trail centre car park one morning when the car behind tears off the wrong way up the one way exit road at high speed.Just as I'm about to pull in to one of the last remaining spaces he appears in a cloud of dust and skids to a halt straight into the same space. He got out, looked me in the eye and said "unlucky".I informed him that 'no you're the unlucky one because this is a private car park,I work here, you can consider yourself barred for reckless driving and now you can piss off home again.Suddenly he was all apologetic and was 'just having a laugh' and moved.
Ahhh....good days....they were few and far between.
I suppose life is full of tossers, it didn't ruin my day, just pissed me off at the time that some folks have that kind of attitude.
What ruined my day was realising how unfit I am halfway up redemption climb on the Black run...a truely horrible experience 🙁
Get over yourself. It's fine, I'm sure you just parked somewhere else.
You are fine. The other guy is a bell-end; there's a lot of them about. Some of them don't even drive an Audi 😉
Are they bmw drivers?
munrobiker - MemberGet over yourself. It's fine, I'm sure you just parked somewhere else
Slightly harsh Munro,
it sounds clearly like this guy was being extremely rude,we are all lovers of two wheeels arent we.
if there were other spaces I would move if there were no more it would be mine. I would then [s]hope he would have the good grace to stand there whilst i undo my forks whilst drinking furiously from the camelbak.[/s]get out the ipad and immediately start a thread on here asking what to do next.
should've taken his pic and posted him up here
(if he's who I think he is, I haven't seen munrobiker since that photo crazylegs took)
Yes a pic posted on here would have been the best solution.
I was only joking about keying the ****'s car, but I really despise this sort of selfish behaviour.
So this afternoon I pull into the packed Glentress carpark
go to Glentress for half a day? do you steal the diesel out of your granny's yacht?
Wouldn't have happened on natural trails or in England.
Lesson to be learned I think.
Conversely...
There I was parked on the bike in a space at GT, when this oik appeared and assumed his car had more right to be there even though I got my bike in first.
Should have started a thread on STW about it.....
You'd have probably done similar if a mate was joining you. Chillax....
should've taken his pic and posted him up here
You'd be amazed how effective taking a pic of someone is at settling what looks like a messy situation.
I was having a massive arguement with a farmer a few weeks ago about whether a bit of trail that crossed his farm was a footpath or bridlepath.
I thought it was going to get physical at a number of stages.
I pulled my camera out, took a pic of him and said that I knew where he lived and could identify him, so he should move on now or call the police.
The lengthy ugly situation was settled immediately.
downshep...its a car parking space??? That the most stupid arguement I've ever heard. And no I wouldn't have done similar, because as others have pointed out its the act of a selfish prick.
What tyres for reserving parking?
*reason no. 87 not to go to trail centres more often*
Youre lucky there could have been a bollard next to his car,(from a previous thread)
You should have got out and malkied him then parked over his prostrate body.
Why didn't you just push him out the way with your car ?
It's easy. I do it all the time on GTA.
Good stuff Mattoutandabout.
I was beginning to get seriously concerned this was going to run to page 2 without a "and that's why I don't go to trail centres" or similar post. Yossarian was close, but yours was the purer version.
*bows*
*hides fact he was at trail centre today....*

Glen Tress Auto?
It was a direct challenge for you to MTFU; you failed. Your potential parking spot was forfeit.

LOL car park arguments are unique to Scotland? Dream on!
TBH unless it was the last space in the car park I can't see what OP's issue is. Was it the last space in the car park?
I give you gymnastics in a car WTF!!!!
Hmm, maybe I don't need an Audi or BMW to go to a trail centre, maybe I need this:
No one would argue about my parking then...
Nope...it wasn't the last space in the carpark, there was one other one free as it happens. But at the time I didn't know that, and more importantly neither did he.
At the end of the day clearly some people think its ok to do that, and some don't. Not going to lose any sleep over it, just think its a pretty lousy attitude to have towards your fellow bikers, which is why I posted.
was on your side till the gratuitous orange 5 comment, your obviously a nob and deserve abuse from the general public at every opportunity
Today I took a dump. About as interesting as somebody saving a space for their mates in a carpark.
You should have pointed out if they were just freinds , perhaps they arrived in the same car, thus reducing the amount of greenhouse gases produced, and the detrimental effect it has on the environmnet, along with poor use of the available space.
All said in a nerdy voice.

were you warming the seat for a friend?
Do bears **** in the woods?
I thought the Pope did....?
Is it illegal to let someones tyres down?
Have to wonder as nothing actually gets stolen or damaged?
This is just because it's funny!
I'd have calmly nutted the **** whilst my my mates 'dealt' with his - isn't that the answer to all situations like this?
loads of roadie ****s it the carpark today...thats why it was so busy.....****S
So a mate is 3 cars behind you and you want to park together so you can have some post ride banter while the bikes are packed away...nothing wrong with saving a space for a mate. Would say theres a gap of only a minute or two for it to be credible. The OP needs to relax.
tp - I wasn't being entirely serious, just messin'. 😉
Fair enough OP. If you thought it was the last parking spot and it meant your trip to the trail centre was wasted, I can sympathise with your point. Mind you, the other guy will be thinking exactly the same thing about his mates, and I can kinda sympathise with them too.
I can see both points of view, but at the end of the day his mate is an ally in life and these are uncertain times.
If my mate was almost there and the car park was almost full and I was asked to keep a space for him, that space would be getting kept!
Only chumps seem to ride bikes at trail centres. Why are you spending thousands of pounds on bikes, hundreds of pounds on equipment and then countless hours of your time travelling to these "trail centres" only to turn up there (to ride for about 2 hours) and start getting involved in petty arguements.
Thats not what cycling is about. You spend enough of your working life having to deal with these nuggets, you shouldnt want to do it in your free time aswell.
I'd suggest taking up road cycling. Pure freedom on two wheels.
Sounds like he was a STW regular to me. You shouldnt be so surprised.
Mountain biking seems to be attracting more and more of this sort of person. Would be nice if they just stayed on the golf course.
Consider yourself lucky he hadnt put his BBQ and patio furniture in the parking space
Pair o diddies -get a grip.
Was the bloke riding a BMW bike then?
I've never understood the appeal of trail centres, they are just giant hamster wheels as far as I can see. Buy a map and use your mountain bike for riding in mountains or get a road bike and ride from your front door.
Unfortunately with limited resources due too fools being in charge, people are forced to become more organised to ensure that they don't lose out!
If you want to blame anyone blame the forrestry commission for being useless, also can we have a look at your parking ticket for the day, just to make sure that you paid your money and have the right to moan 😉
Buy a map and use your mountain bike for riding in mountains or get a road bike and ride from your front door.
Wow.....do women often swoon at your realness?...
🙂
Who cares?!!! Non-event. At most I'd see it as a bloke being overly-loyal to a mate.

Little bit narrow-minded there, David. If people enjoy riding their bikes at trail centres, what skin is that off your nose?
I enjoy going to Queen Elizabeth Country Park and Coed y Brenin. I like the fact that the trail is signposted and I don't have to consult a map or GPS, I can just get on with enjoying my ride. I also like the fact that the trails are one way and you know you're not going to steam round a corner and run into a dog walker (I have nothing against dog walkers).
I fully appreciate that some people actually enjoy the map thing, feeling that it adds to their experience - that's fine too, it's their bag and what they enjoy, it's not mine and I don't.
Why have I spent a lot of money on a bike and why do I spend a couple of hours in a car to go and ride at CyB? Because the riding is better than anything I have locally, I enjoy myself when I get there and I drive home happy. Cycling is 'about' something subtly different for each and every person, there's certainly no legislation on what one should and shouldn't personally find enjoyable.
I don't want to take up road cycling. I find it boring. I ride on a road when I cycle to work because it is the most efficient way of making the journey (I even spent a lot of money on a high quality set of 700c wheels specifically for this purpose), it's not something I'd want to do for pleasure though. If you like road cycling, that's cool. You obviously enjoy it and that's fine, it doesn't make you 'a chump'. Similarly, choosing to ride at a trail centre does not make me or anybody else 'a chump'.
Little bit narrow-minded there, David
Oh god, why do people reply to him. Let him be and hopefully he'll piss off.

Yup, he's new here.
😆 At long serious answer.
Inspired!
So this afternoon I pull into the packed Glentress carpark...
And there lies your first mistake. 😉
As an aside I have noticed the dickhead factor at GT has increased of late.
So I'm not at all surprised by car park antics like this.

I was there yesterday riding a few demo bikes and the car parking antics were quite entertaining, despite the big yellow 'car park full' sign on the way to the peel car park, everyone was driving up and doing austin power turns, getting stuck behind others, driving up banks of dirt, whislt the overflow car park was open and mostly empty (at least in the morning).
But the overflow car park is miles away......
But the overflow car park is miles away......
It be quite handy that most people have there bikes with them then 😉

It will be increasing even more on Friday when I'm heading up there.
Anyone need a space reserving
But the overflow car park is miles away......
Personally I'm disgusted there isn't a shuttle service.
Hahahaha! butcher!!!
As already said poor management by the forrestry commission, improve the facilities but don't take into account the fact that more people will come, D'oh!
