Am currently full of farts after a delicious half price (gov't scheme) curry feast in Kirkwall.
This was my first long bikepacking trip and there's very little I would change other than gearing my bike higher and using a rigid fork instead of a 140mm Pike.
Schwalbe g-one all-round 29*2.35 were amazing as were the titanium framed Titus and Mavic goretex shoes.

Awesome! Totally unfamiliar with most of that route, do you have one single 'omni-route' on Strava?
Obviously you just continue on to Shetland and then back down Norwegian coast 😉
Great stuff. Thanks for for sharing.
Well that’s a win. 👍🏼
Brilliant - thanks for sharing x 2.
Love that wee house in the middle of the loch 😃
Nice!
wow, lovely trip!!!
Thanks for sharing
Actually, my riding pal's brother was talking about sending us up to Shetland to fetch his pickup truck back.....
I'd be keen on going on to the Faroes, but no ferries from here. Supposedly the most beautiful women in the world!
Instead we'll probably stay here for a week, do some sightseeing and smaller rides and camping then get the boat back to Aberdeen.
I don't have the facilities to combine all my gpx Garmin files on my phone, but will try it on PC once I get back.
Other interesting thing: my pal only started riding bikes a month ago. So yes, lockdown is definitely getting folk out on the bikes - he's hooked. We're already thinking of what's next...
Great stuff. Have ridden that the other way round over a couple of trips, some of the best days I've had on the bike.
That looks a brilliant trip!
Did you get many midges?
There was a big apocalypse in Culbin Forest - midges, mosquitos and flies. Glad I brought a headnet. Did enjoy watching the bats hunting that night.
Looks great. What happened to your thumb?
brilliant. Stay near the Moray coast so know at least some of those locations!
Superb, I have just come back from Orkney. Did your two rest days tie in with the storms on Tuesday/Wednesday we had a very entertaining walk at Skail Bay but the winds were not quite right for good surf.
Enjoy the sunsets đŸ™‚
Truly inspirational mate, thanks for sharing the adventure.
Epic, well played mate.
Great stuff!
I'm itching for some touring, and have a couple of months of long weekends ahead with part time furlough. Hmmmm.
I'm from the black isle and used to live in Edinburgh and Orkney so I approve of this
Really enjoyed that.. Following👍
that looked like fun! you went through where we stay as well!
That was great, nicely done đŸ™‚
Great stuff! Would love to do that one day.
Thanks for sharing.
Did you stop for a feed on the Struie lookout overlooking the Dornoch Firth?
You look like the disreputable characters I saw munching away there when I pulled in to let my wife enjoy the scenery the other day.
(Black Volvo, old fart)
Looks like a great trip. I passed you on the bike when in Aberdeen, I wondered if you'd been on a coast to coast or an extended deeside trail
Haha, yes, we were at that Struie lookout - we stopped for a bourbon! We also stopped for tinnies in Aberdeen. A theme develops 😆
It was weird, in almost 450 miles, lots of it on NCN1, we only saw two other folk touring and they were both really far north. Expected more folk would be out there considering what's going on.
I combined all the GPS files from my Garmin and made a single one:
