You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Dismantling an old bike yesterday that I haven’t ridden in about 10 years, moved it off the rack and something dropped off it, looked up and noticed the saddle pointing skyward. The Thomson seat post had failed right by the bolt. Obviously it looks like I’ve over tightened it years ago, thankfully didn’t happen whilst riding!
I had a Thompson snap in a spiral fracture just above the seat clamp, where we had attached the tag along.
It left a sharp shard 8cm long, which grazed my thigh, ripping lycra shorts but not plunging into inner leg....
We're lucky folk...
I had a seat post snap at the head, drop the saddle in to the path of an oncoming car and leave a sharp spike pointing skywards.
A lucky escape.
I'm not convinced Thompson stuff is all that. 2 bent seat posts, 2 stems with problems caused by tiny bolt heads.
