Finally completed deposit etc for a trip with www.bikingandalucia.com thanks to some threads/posts on here.

We were debating Morzine, but in honesty i wasn't really feeling it. I feel it's more throwing yourself down a mountain hoping to be lucky than riding a bike. Biking Andalucia seems more like an adventure of scenery, views, riding and trails....

Really looking forward to it now 🙂

6 months is going to seem a long time to wait !

Ooh, sounds fab - been considering the same thing for a while, but we still love our family, friends, kids, wives, husbands get together in chatel every year for PPdS. Its great fun.

Keep us posted!

Question for anyone who's been, should I take the Parkwood 29 or the Whyte t130?

I love both bikes so happy on either, my only minor concern I guess is putting the more expensive whyte on plane.
But it may be that in STW experience its more suited to a 29 and indeed a HT

Great area. I yearn to head back after a trip in 2013. Absolutely loved it.

We just got back from a week's holiday there (staying near Mojacar). All the local riders were riding Euro Racer short travel 29er hardtails.

I've ridden with David from BA a couple of times. I'd take the Full-Suss. Most of the trails are basically bedrock with varying levels of lumpiness. I'm sure you could ride in on a HT but not sure why you'd bother if you have the FS.

Some of it is quite exposed

There's a lot of this

David will see you right tho. Just tell him the kind of stuff you want to ride. Orgiva is a lovely town. Very chilled. It's also a fab place to ride a bike.

Looking at the pics, it's the Whyte that's going 🙂

That's helped lots, thank you.

I guess my last decision is whether i run at 1X with a 32T up front as it's currently configured, or whether i swap over to 2X

There are a few long climbs, but don't remember running out of gears on them. I would have been on 1x10 last time and 2x the first time so not that much help!

There's a great trail under the windmills I'd recommend you ride. Here's how you get out to it 🙂

Time is closing in.... 1 month today and we'll be on a plane about now, winging our way to the mountains for 7 days of fun, sunshine, riding and of course plenty of meat and beers !

Bike is ready, i've got new pedals, new tyres, i've given it new gear cables etc.

I think we've got everything from new brake pads, to mech hangers, seatposts, tubeless repair kits and spare tyre for emergencies. Fitness is good, so i think i'm all good to go.

Plan is to hang the bike up from the 20th or so and just Zwift, then take the last 4-5 days off completely so i go there with completely rested legs 🙂

Very excited about this trip now.

I've done a couple of trips in Sierra Nevada before and it's great, shortish travel FS 29er would be my choice. I'm not a good rider (reds are generally more than enough for me in the UK, I'll do the odd black but don't really enjoy them as mostly worrying about crashing/being out of my depth :p ). In SN the riding we did was mostly blue/red level stuff, the only thing new to me was the amount of very steep descents (which I didn't particularly enjoy, you def need a dropper post though). The exposed trails scared the crap out of me to, all's fine until you come to a step-down switchback and realise if you stall and go over the bars you're not going to stop for a few hundred metres of rolling/falling. It was bloody hot in July though and not much shade in most places so make sure you drink lots and use P20

I'm only able to road ride at the mo, but the exposure to the elements is not to be taken lightly. Plenty of hydration, esp with electrolites etc, and certainly try to avoid the mid-day burn!!!

Rotors removed, spare pedals packed, tools packed, remote for dropper packed.

I'm not putting the frame in a there just yet as we don't want to make it too easy for someone breaking into the garage.

Early start, which wasn't ideal for me as I liked about 4am from too much beer and tapas lol. Just woke up feeling garbage so thought, better out than in.

Into Matril for hooking up with local XC group ride. 30+ riders out. Started really well, Crust was on fire early doors and climbing really well, but it kept going up and up and up!

We lost the bunch and just kept climbing, hooking up with one later who showed us the way. He soon got bored though. So we picked some random tracks and ended up with the best and most technical descent I've ridden bar none. At a guess 1.5km of rocks, small drops/steps etc. Awesome. We then had more climbing to get back over to the right valley. Then a cracking fun, full on flying down road descent!

After some beers I decided to cycle back home. Which is where thing went very very wrong. Sat nav tried to take me on the motorway 3 times, despite me telling it I wanted cycling only. It then took me up a ridiculous climb which ended at a gate! I was lucky the boys were in the bar in town still and bailed me out with a van lift home

Morning was 44km and 1150m elevation.
Afternoon was 27km and 500m elevation

Home for dip in pool and chilling watching motogp. Less beers tonight!

Any atun rojo in the local eateries? Don't miss the opportunity. The only place and time where they catch the bluefin tuna sustainably.

More epicness today, started as always with a load of climbing, total today was just under 1000m again.
Loads of proper sketchy fall off the side to your death type trails, lots of rocks and fun downs. Epic views, epic fun and eventually cheese balls and beers! Awesome

Was what is now known as quite a normal day today really. Started out with some climbing, well a fair bit of it really lol. Up up up. Bit of down then some more up.

Finally down down but wasn't as exciting as the ones yesterday really. One bit was crazy technical and I bottled it and walked. I was slightly disappointed in myself but you know what, I can't afford to smash myself up, so I guess it was discretion being the better part of valor.
Crust bailed a bit early and our guide said "shall we go up to the ridge and do descent?" Of course my answer was yes, its a good section, but damn it was a bit of a climb! So so glad I fitted the granny for the week. Also very pleased I didn't bring the HT.

Sadly my Magura Vyron dropper is creaking terribly, I fitted a standard post, quiet again, soon as the dropper goes in, creak creak, its cleaned, lubed etc, so I've sent Merlin a mail to see what they say as its only 6 months old.

Beers and lunch then relaxing in the pool and having another beer or 3.

Today was a rest day and anyone who's read my posts in the past will know what that means, work!

Went out with STWs Mr Woppit who's now a local here, plan was to climb some massive hill and come down.
The terrain was tough, really sandy gravely dust, it mate some of the tough inclines really really tough.

After a while it was clear my guide for the day wasn't able to make the climb, so I was sent on my way with directions.

It went on and on and on! Forever!

Finally I made it to the top though and took pics and cruised back to the bottom.

Its not the most exciting days ride, but one of the tough ones, with 1300m of climbing, it's no stroll in the park.
Lovely day here, lots of time by the pool and relaxing the legs in the pool.

First though, beers!

Yes, I know its 10.30am but 1300m of climb deserves beers.

Looks like fun!
The climbs over there certainly give you value for money!

I've been 3x with Ciclo Montana & Marco's idea of a 'traverse' is my idea of a lung busting climb!!
I think we have ended up in the town that Woppit has moved to a couple of times....

All downhill may have been stretching it for today, however it was a brilliant ride! Lots and lots of down, with 650m of vertical in there too, then beers, tapas and chilling.

Which brings me nicely into Tapas here. You never ever ever have to buy a meal, well not in the usual context. The tapas can be anything, from fried calamari to wedges and chicken, buy each and every beer, comes with a tapas, if you get 3 beers you get 3 on the plate. We've had hot dogs, veal, kebabs, squid, tuna etc etc. The trick is, you order half pints, so not filling on beers and being drunk etc, but you get loads of food. Last night we went to leave, he wouldn't let us unless we had a beer on him, we'd eaten and drunk like kings for 4 hours, the bill, 28 euro! Wtf. It's just amazing, great quality too.

Anyway, back to the riding, it was the usual single track then fireroad then a village and repeat. Over the week I've been having a pop at most sections, one today I got to the bottom of, it was so so rocky, steep and a bit nuts,! Crust says to me "you never actually rode that did you?" But the answer was yes. Press the Bluetooth button, drop post and hang on! Pop off the rocks, pick your lines and pray for the pending death not to come to fruition. Tbf this kind of tech riding I thrive on, I'm not a jumpy droppy guy, but I love testing myself. So I'm in my element here. But very little of it is me, it's the Whyte, sheesh, it's just so so good, stable, fast, awesome. I love the thing!

Was straight into the pool with more beer and damn it's nice to get in the pool after riding. I'm not a sun monster though so I'm chilling and listening to music in the shade while crust is having a kip.

Just one riding day left now 🙁

This week I'm now on nearly 6000m on vertical and my legs are complaining lot! We've not ridden far, only 150 or so I'm, but it's been a hard hard week and lots of tech and lots of up!

Did the climb of the mine again, well 50% of it anyway up to a left and then went over the opposite side of the mountain.

At the top we came along a ridge which led us into the 46 hairpins of death! Super steep, insanely technical, hard and talk about rocky, it may as well have been some weird alien planet.
Down, bump bang, bump, rock, hairpin, rock rock rock jump, hairpin rock, ouch.

At the end I waited for the boys and we went down one final trail, seemed to be a Swinley type cheeky home made trail, couple of jumps, berms and I stacked it! Lost the front and went down. Happily, not a scratch on me and we trecked back to the bar.

Beers, beers, beers, we survived! What a week!

Bit of a premature one, but we've just booked with David again for June 2019 🙂 I know, it's 15 months away... but doesn't make me any less excited.
