Just came down the black at Lee quarry after sessioning the skills area, sat down static in the saddle waiting for my mate to get his breath (man flu) and set off down towards the pump track when the saddle hit me squarely in the nuts!
SDG bel air and Kore post, the seat rail looks like it had a bite taken out of it where it meets the Kore. slid the saddle back to an undamaged portion, hoped for the best and carried on the ride

Anyone else heard of this?

I've had my saddle on a Kore post rotate round a little when I landed on it too hard as you need to tighten them up quite hard but they've been ace otherwise. Sounds a bit odd really?

I had the same thing. Landed a small drop badly, seat ripped out of the clamp. I just clamped the saddle further along the I-beam and carried on using it like that.
I use normal seats and post these days.

Just a bit worried after it happening once, I've used kore i beam posts on the last 2 bikes without a problem.
The seat rail was fairly chewed where it bust but looked ok further back, so i hoped for the best and went for it...but i gotta say was proper babbing it incase it happened again!

When it smacked me in the jewels id assumed the clamp bolts had come loose allowing the saddle to come nose up.
Looks like i need to dig out the Kore standard rail adapter and go normal!

I've a buddy who I've seen bust, I think, three I-beam saddles using the Kore post. I believe the problem is the clamp on the Kore is comprised of two short (5 mm?) tabs as opposed to the actual SDG I-beam post which clamps over a length of say 25 mm or more. Therefore the stress imparted by the Kore onto the plastic is much higher. I've no problems with my SDG I-beam post. I'm guessing its due to a patent by SDG...

Interesting that Jemima, it would explain why it ripped out then?

I had exactly the same problem, won't trust I-beam near my family jewels ever again.

That's my theory - yip. The plastic is just too soft to take the point loading of the Kore post.

Did exactlly the same thing in the alps a couple of years back - not sure what brand of post it was. Did seem surprisingly stiff Mounted on the remaining bit of rail. Another -1 for I-Beam, never again.

Interesting how hard it is to ride a DH bike with absolutely no saddle though

I have a habit of grabbing a few seconds rest by parking me arse on the less technical sections, then standing just before an evil bit.. i suppose the stress of this over the year so far just weakened it enough
the bump in the trail i hit when it finally went is nothing to write home about, but by god did it hurt!

my SDG I-beam setup has been fine, had for approx 2 years, 1st on my old chameleon and since beginning of the year on my Bluepig but as Jemima posted above-the SDG clamps the seat beam for an inch or so. Mines about midway along the beam position wise so probably dosnt have too much leverage, I guess its the Kore side of things thats caused the post/ringpiece interaction.

Did you opt for the 16 or 18" frame?

you thinking of Colin again arnt you? Im 6'5" - freakishly tall and lanky.

I went for the 20" as its my 'do anything bike', sometimes a bit big/long for muscling round the tight stuff at Lee and a bugger to manual roll but nice for flat out chucking down stuff.

A 6' ish mate has an 18" Pig if your angling for a try on one.

I always think of Col when i get all hot and sweaty, mate! 😆

Tell me more about this 18" owning mate.... Ooooer!

In all seriousness (for once in my life.. it had to happen sometime) me and me mate have a do on a 16" and it felt right for trail centres and i feel with the post up it would also be good xc duties...
But it would be sweet to try an 18" for fit before any plunge is taken

i've got an i-beam saddle & post (sdg & titec) & have had similar issues with the clamp biting into the rail and making it unusable. i have a bodge though...

after a few weeks of the saddle coming lose and moving around i was out on riding in the rain (& getting really pi$$ed off with the seat) and came across someone's discarded fosters can. i cut it up and placed about 3 layers of the aluminium between the clamp and the rail, cranked up the bolt and it hasn't moved once since. that was about a year ago i reckon. suppose tin foil or something similar would work.
