My old Frame [Marin Northside Trail] was too small. Fell in love with the Soul after seeing it on here. 😀

Totally plastered in Heli tape.
Need a new rear wheel once I can afford it. But am delighted with the Soul so far...

what to do with the old frame?

Sell the old frame to fund a new wheel.

I love the Cotic orange and that bike looks just right.

Think your table could do with a sand and oil though....

+1 apart from the mix of black and white kit and too-long hoses.
Good valve-logo alignment, though I'd have them both at 6 o'clock not 9 o'clock for a photo.

🙂

There was a tinge of sadness as I fitted it. I had dry heaves as I fitted the read mudguard [not pictured, for obvious reasons] 🙂

Nice, perfect saddle and grip colour for a brit winter too 😉

Sucks being off work and unable to ride when the weather is gorgeous outside.

<Sighs and wonders off to fettle Orange Prince Albert>

It may look terrible but if it stops one speck of dog shite from hitting me in the face I'll keep living with mine.

Yup, crud catcher lose. Why do you need this and a bender fender?

Nice apart from that though!

Crud catcher or fender doesn't get the lot I find, there's always something sneaks through. I use both on my bike in winter too, they compliment each other well.

What about the heath robinson use of inner tube on the fork crown - does that not work?

Still looks crap mind!

Lesson here - take the photo before mudguards are added, and don't own up!

Works quite well actually, in the monsoon conditions we had the other week my innertube + zipties worked better than my mates shop bought neoprene + velcro job.

I do own one of these but for ultimate mud clearence, it's a homemade job FTW.

Good valve-logo alignment.

The rim needs rotating clockwise approximately 3-4mm for perfect alignment. Also, you have growth starting between the paving slabs beneath that table that needs re-treating. I'd keep on top of that
.
Nice bike.

well the largest size soul (as far as I could tell) seemed to be pretty much the same size as my 18" mmmbop and I wanted something a bit longer, went with the 20" 456

edit btw that last sentence doesn't make sense, did you mean "no plans to make" or something else?

I still like the orange.

When I bought my frame back in 2004, the choices were orange and black. Mrs North only sanctioned the expenditure on the basis it was black.

Still prefer Orange..!

In a "The wife didn't notice the new bike 'cos the old one was black" sort of way?

Yes. At the time, we had one income (mine), and so money was extremely tight. So discretionary expenditure came with certain strings. She seemed to insist on a colour choice, which was fine if it meant I could build the bike.

"you can have a new bike as long as I get to pick the colour" bit wierd but I could go with that 🙂

Edit - Actualy no, I really like orange souls too.

Still sounds bizarre to me, atleast you got a new bike, do you have to ask if you can go out on it? 😉

She was writing up her PhD and had gone a bit crackers I think..!

Actually, I hardly ride it these days (maybe two or three times a year) - have turned into a roadie.

thanks for the post, simular setup to what i am thinking of getting.

Going to try and get a test ride soon as im interested to see how it compares ride geometry to my rockhopper(i like the agressive geometry a lot, inspires me to do stupid things 🙂 )

I'm just back from another ride. My old frame had similar geometry to the Soul, but the Soul make me feel like I've got new legs and lungs. I seem to have more power at slow speed to get up and over roots and through deep mud. I'm not sure if it's in my head and it'll wear off, or if the bike is just that much better... 🙂

Nice build. Was thinking of getting a black one to go with some black forks as I wasn't sure about orange and black, but that does look good.
