Just now I was window shopping at a Specialized concept store and I've only just realised that there are now cable operated hydraulic disk calipers available (looks like I've only been hiding under my rock for about 3 years on that one).
There were some mechanical vs hydraulic threads recently but I don't remember hybrid calipers coming up, (or was I not paying enough attention).
I can see various advantages in the hybrid system however it loses a couple of key advantages of running mechanical disks which to me are attractive because there is no chance of having issues with hydraulic fluids seeping past seals and contaminating pads, and that if you do need to do a teardown and rebuild it is all relatively straightforward mechanical stuff with no o-rings to rear etc.
Theoretically I am surprised that a cable pulled hydraulic system is providing appreciably better mechanical advantage than a mechanical system, surely it can't be too hard to make a mechanical system that is stiff enough not to flex appreciably more than a hydraulic system?
