Morning all , we have booked 10 days in morzine for the summer and are vvvvvery excited.

Coming from living in Sweden for 10 years, I am looking forward to being reunited/initially happy/ending up embarrassed of seeing my fellow englishmen again, as I have heard there is a strong British presence there in the summer months? Yes!

Anything we musn't miss ? Good restaurants, afterbike places? Day trips (both on bike and on rest days) ? We will be staying in montriond.

Also, worth bringing climbing gear?

Ta!

It'll take you about a day to figure out the layout and how to travel between Morzine and Les Gets so I wouldn't worry about that.

In 10 days you'll be repeating yourself quite a lot if you stick to the marked trails. Chatel is definitely worth a visit but there's unofficial trails everywhere depending on your appetite for steepness. Just speak to people and tell them what you want. It's a really easy place to get around.

Can't really help with climbing spots or night clubs.

I've missed the last couple of years. I might manage a spontaneous trip if I've got the time.

Bar Robinson and the Rhodos bar are very very English. Both decent food and drink with a great vibe, lots of bikers and bike shops too

In my words of one French person I know: “this feels as French as Disney Land” so think you’ll be fine 😉

Bar Robinson is great for beer before dinner. Not too many though or you’ll quickly forget that dinner was a thing.

Been a sad number of years since I was last there - Bec Jaune was a new favourite though

Its great and you'll have a fabulous time. It's worth exploring. Try and get over to champery, but leave enough time to get back. You only need to be at the top of mossettes when the lifts shut as it's downhill home. There's loads of good activities outside biking too. The rafting is great. There is climbing and a pretty extreme via Ferrara.

There's a couple of swimming spots in lakes. I really really enjoyed a swim at the end of a hot days riding.

It's 4 years since I was there - but noticeable the mix of families and (mainly) large groups of men from the UK out there. Our take was that everyone was riding and enjoying themselves, so a nice atmosphere - that said, we didn't go out in evening as we were staying in Les Gets.

Swis national DH track (is that it's name?) Is great

Champery is worth it, we did it in the damp and I crashed a lot, then ripped out my rear brake hose, then had to make it to the bottom, then had to pay Swiss bike shop prices to get my brake working again for the ride home 😭😭

Chatel bike park worth a trip too

Loads to ride at morzine too

Hehe - eldest did nearly the same. Got to bottom, then crashed while manualling an easy bit, ripping rear hose out of his Magura. Verrry expensive bike shop sold him hose and fittings, but he opted to get back to Morzine and fix himself when they told him the labour charge. Don't crash in Switzerland...

6th to 13th of August for me. 1st time taking my better half rather than going with a bunch of (now ancient) lads. Looking forward to a different experience to previous long weekends in Morzine.

@weeksy  ah shame we are there from 16th to 27th July. I'll be sure to leave some braking bumps for you 🙂

Thanks for the tips so far, lake swimming sounds great.  We will definitely be exploring. i have heard samoens is great too?

are longer day trips or stopovers available? like high alpine cycling outside of the park without a guide? worth checking trailforks i presume?

thanks for the tips on specific bars and restaurants, more are always welcome!

I can't give you any specifics, mainly because I never know the names of the places we go to. Almost everything is lined up on the same road so you can just wander along and see what you fancy. You really can't miss anything.

I've never had a bad dining or drinking experience there just don't overdo it with the Mutzig.

Get yourself over to Samoens for a day of riding. Very different to Morzine, much more natural style singletrack, of the black variety.
There’s lots of off-piste goodness to be found around Morzine and Les Gets too, Strava heatmaps is your friend.

Samoens is great. We did a route a few years ago where every so often were ramps for the nutters to run off the end before deploying a parachute 🙂

There's also a great ride with 'Jenkins DH' in it. Chatel way. It's in one of the guide books. Well worth seeking out.

Having done a few trips there, defo get out of the bike parks. So much amazing natural riding if you're prepared to seek it out and do some non lift assisted climbing.

Oh and Bar Robinson BEFORE the Chevannes run back to Morzine 🙂  I knew I was in trouble when it took me there goes to get the bike in the Gondola 🙂

Depending on skill level Morgins was fun. Also Pre la Joix bike park in Chantel has fun at all levels. Led Crosets has a nice track and you can spend a day or 2 riding in Les Gets.

When inevitably you end up in Bar Robbo don't scoff at the size of the Mutzig bottles because you'll be sorry and wobbly !!! 😁😁😁😁😁

Restaurants in Morzine, L’etale and la rotonde. Both very nice, not cheap, but nice.

Satellite coffee is good for a brew, (sat next to Amaury Pieron, he didn’t recognise me though)

I thought the better riding was over at Chatel, easy to get to from Morzine centre.

Swimming in Lac du Montriond, and they have SUP/kayak hire.

We were there for two weeks two years ago, it’s a lovely place for families and biking.

If you need a guide, I can recommend Jo at Rideability.

Get the ludicrously cheap pass for the facilities like the swimming pool.

La Ferme de la Fruitiere - is a nice restaurant.

A useful guide to get there and of the track.

Have a watch of the whole series of vids on that channel, it’s very good to give an idea of the main runs.

Morgins is good, totally different to Morzine.

Restaurants in Morzine, L’etale

Has that been rebuilt/reopened after the fire?

Also, if driving, take the car to Morgan’s. Gets you a full day of riding rather than having to keep an eye on the time (and weather)
