Has anyone got any recommendations for some cheap flat bar brakes. Are the Clarks M2 or M3 any good. They seem to get decent reviews albeit with complaints of poor stopping power. Thanks

I've had m3's power of OK but lever feels flimsy, reach adjuster creeps with use and bleeding is tricky with the reservoir being part of the lever body.

Bought some clouts which are m2 levers (reservoir on top) and lever feel is better than m3, they feel more robust. They have reach and bite adjust which is a bonus.

M2 is same lever as clout with the same caliper as m3. I may swap my m3 calipers onto the clout levers at some point as they are a bit lighter.

Pads are shimano type so easy to get hold of and they came with 2 new inserts and olives in the box.

Thanks for the reply. Any other suggestions? Is it worth spending extra on Shimanos?

I'm wondering what the price point is where BB7s are beaten for braking power and faff. Maybe it's a bit above the Clarks...?

BB7s are a faff need regular adjustment and decent compression less cable housing
Clarks M2 work well for me on my utility gym / shopper / pump track great value

I don't find my BB7's any hassle - just wind the adjusters in every so often.

They seem to get decent reviews albeit with complaints of poor stopping power.

Call me traditional but the one thing brakes are supposed to do is usually high on my reviewer's checklist. What did people recommend them for so they nett out as decent 😉

Shimano Deores (or even the cheaper non-series ones) are always the correct answer here

We used Deore brakes on my other halfs flat bar Space Chicken.

If you need flat mount then you can get adaptors to fit post mount calipers to flat mount bikes.

Sorry, only mentioned BB7s when I hadn't seen flat bar. Can't go wrong with Deores. Lower ones as above are probably fine. Specially if you find a screaming deal - I got a f&r set of Deores for £25 a few years ago.

Flat mount might be a complication if your frame needs them.
