Any recommendations? I've done a google search and all the threads that come up seem to be quite old so I wondered if anyone had a recommendation for me. I've tried Camelbak and Deuter before and always found them too short. Thanks.
Osprey do different sizes/lengths for some models. I have the opposite issue to you though as I'm sort so find most too long.
You could try a vest style pack, eg the Camelbak Chase range or something by USWE. They sit high and don't have waist straps, so having a long torso shouldn't be a problem.
The difficulty here is it's entirely subjective. I'm 6'4" so whilst I'm not abnormally large nor am I by any standard short and I'd recommend the best things you've said don't fit.
The various camelbaks I've tried have all been fine (currently using a kudu on m/l, though I think the size is more to do with it having a back protector than the pack), Shimano unzen 15 was good, osprey was good and so on.
Some of the EVOC packs come in XL length, let me know if you find some as I want one too!
I’m 195 cm tall so similar issue. Have been using a Camlbak kudu for the last 4 years.
The sized packs seem to relate mostly to the back protector bags. The disadvantage with some of the Evoc bags being they grow in capacity too so you end up with a huge bag rather than a longer slimmer one).
Not wanting a back protector options are more limited. I’ve tried osprey packs befor and even the large felt too small (and they are made with a narrow profile and a lot of depth which I think makes bags unstable.).
Ended up with an Evoc stage 18. The stage is the same “footprint” whatever size you get it in, just gets deeper s the capacity goes up, but even the 18 is fairly low profile). Has armour and helmet carry straps. AND a waterproof cover. All neatly tucked away when not in use. Only a few rides in but seems comfortable and stable.
I'm not sure where you are finding problems - is the waist strap too high?
If you are looking for a smaller pack, I love my USWE (and I generally hate packs). There are no waist straps, just the crossover infront of your chest, and single clip removal.
The pack and its weight sort of sits between and below your shoulder blades... typing that makes it sound terrible, but a a 6'1" bony person, it sits on me nicely and doesnt move.
6'3 here. I use an EVOC pack. They come in an XL version but I find the M/L one fits me really well. Which is strange because in all my other packs, of which I have many, they all come in long/large/XL flavour
Waist belt is very comfy. Although I generally wear a hip pack over a rucksack
Ergon. They have adjustable back length in BX series. I have newer BX2 and old BX3 and really they are best fitting of the +20 packs I have had. Not perfect but fit is excellent.
