So… here is the fact pattern

- Bought new Hunt wheels
- Screwed on an XT cassette. Lots of threading at the time, not much purchase. Just did it gently.
- Rode bike. Cassette slipped. limped home.
- Removed lockring, removed cassette but whole freehub came off with cassette.
- Popped it all back on, screwed new lockring in. Felt more secure.
- Now, freehub wont spin when thru-axle tightened.

Any thoughts. I have a similar issue with a set of hope hubs where I changed the spacers to go from QR to thru-axle. At this point really just feeling a bit tired of spending more time fixing bikes than riding them…

Is there a spacer missing that stops the bearings being side loaded.

There should be a red spacer that goes onto the axle before the freehub. Possible that this was lost when the freehub was off??

Very helpful!
I can pop it off again and check.
It’s possible in my rush popping it back in I bodged it.

Sorry, can't help with the maintenance issue, but glad I popped by just for the bullshit bingo phrase of

fact pattern

Good work.

I had a front wheel that wouldn't turn when the axle was tightened on my brand new road bike. Turned out a conical washer had fallen off the axle in the packaging, and was required on the axle to seat it properly somehow. Fortunately I hadn't thrown out the packaging and sure enough there it was in the bottom of the box.

Pulled it apart - red spacer present

So I had changed the lockring between installs.

I looked at the lockring provided with the cassette and it had a lower profile than the one I had popped on the second time (assume it either came with the wheel or it was knocking around spare in the parts bin)

This seems to have fixed it… not come across this before.

The thicker one was a centerlock lock ring perhaps?

Correct.
A bit dunce of me.

Anyway, midride the small cog slipped. Looks like the freehub is threaded now so waiting for Hunt to tell me what my options are. They have been helpful by emailZ
