Got a new trail wide wheelset, Mary on the front straight up north probs. Nobby on the back seated perfect but it's leaking from the bottom of the valve. What can I do to sort it. Any ideas?

Could be air leaving the rim. Walk away and see if it's still up in an hour.

Yeah I agree. Leave it for an hour and go back to see where it's up to. Might have nicked the tape somewhere putting the tyre on?

I've literally just put a different set of tyres on mine (same wheelset) just using a track pump.

Sealant might seal any little gaps with luck 🙂

Pump up, give it a spun/shake/bounce and come back in an hour to see if it's still up. If not, possibly retape?

It's flat as a pancake now. I've not put sealant in yet. I put the tyre on and I made a 'sealant injector' out of an old brake bleed kit. Reckon I whack sealant in and try again?

You haven’t put the sealant in yet and you’re wondering why it’s going down…? 🤔

I'm wondering why it's pissing air out of the valve.

in case you’re not aware, if the air is getting into the rim it will escape through the valve hole as this is the least sealed of all the holes in the rim.

wherever the leak is, it will likely seal once you’ve got the sealant in.

I always make sure to get the seal airtight before adding sealant. If it's leaking from a small hole in the tyre, that's okay. But make sure the rim and bead is all good before the sealant going in as you can then adjust tape and valves without the sealant getting everywhere.

Sound like a type problem. Retape and go again.

I had similar today setting up a replacement V2 Trail Wide rim with a Purgatory tyre. I re-used the valve from my defunct V1 rim and had the smallest amount of air coming from the base of the valve, even though I had it tightened down as far as I dare.

I put some sealant in, span the tyre for a few minutes, and it has stayed up.

I had to re-tape one of my xc wide when I got them. Went up fine after that.
