Anybody bought these , I have a trek Slash with the the standards bontragers which are fine . I think DT swiss are involved with bontrager. The bearings have gone and I know they are cheap to change but trying to use this as an excuse to change wheels. I'd normally buy Dt Swiss 1900 which are a cheap decent wheel. That said heard good things about hunts but just not sure about the hubs.
Also just bought a Trek Checkpoint so basically would buy new wheels for that as well.
Any advice is appreciated.
I got a set with my Rocket Max and I'm still a bit undecided.
Rims have had a fair beating, but a few dings in the walls appeared quite early on (Rimpact noodles fitted), which was disappointing. I've bent them back and they hold air, but still.
I actually really like the rear hub, nice fast engagement and rolls well. Bit loud, but whatever. The front one seemed to end up a little rumbly pretty quickly, and there often seems to be a bit of play unless I get the axle bang on.
It's annoying that the rear is 36 spoke, as when the rim dies it'll be more difficult to get a replacement. I think Stans Flows would be my usual rim of choice, and they don't do a 36h.
Last, I think they're kinda heavy, but they're and enduro wheel and mine are still straight sooooo, yeah, mixed bag in my mind.
Edit: Should probably say I've had them about 18 months (barely ridden during lockdown though) and when I've had to deal with Hunt they have been really helpful, so I wouldn't have any worries about warranty or support.
Thanks for the reply bud, might be better getting some stans and Hope hubs..

Hunt sell replacement rims FWIW...
The Enduro's are 33mm wide internally too... Unless you're really heavy and/or running 2.6's or bigger, I'd go for the Trail Wides myself... 👍🏻
If you go custom build just use your hub of choice and the relevant DT Swiss rim.
i have some. i wouldn’t buy again. fantastic company to deal with but the 36 hole rear hub massively restricts options for alternative rims. by restricts, i mean eliminates. in terms of durability it is the rims toy need to be wary of.
if i had my time again i’d either, in descending order
a: build some wheels with dt rims and spokes and some bitex hubs. or,
b: get some x1900 dt wheels. or,
c: buy the trail wide and replace the rims with dt rims as and when it was needed. or,
what i’d do in your position is replace the bearings and carry on. i don’t think the options you’re considering would make a massive difference.
Look at Just Riding Along wheels. Similar price and get very good reviews.
I’d go for DT Swiss rims on some decent hubs and get them built up custom - XM481 or EX511 depending on how vigorous you are at riding / how rocky the places are you ride / how heavy you are.
Hub wise I’d look at Hope Pro4 / DT 350 / Bitex for mid range sort of hubs that are decent but not hugely expensive. Maybe also consider Superstar V6’s - although I’ve no experience of those.
I have the enduro wides on my hardtail, brought over from a year on my rocketmax. They are are good for the money for sure. Pickup is fast, rims are strong enough and customer service has been outstanding. They just sort of get on with it quietly (not so much the freehub, heard it called an industrial noise!!)
I have dt350 hubs with ratchet upgrade and dt ex511 on my enduro bike, these wheels are nicer to ride, they feel a little nicer and I’m not exactly sure why. Although I’m not that impressed by the dt hubs, would probably get hope hubs next time
Not sure I would buy the hunts again though, not because they are bad, mainly as for not much extra I could get a set of hope/dt ex511 built and I prefer the feel of them
I find them junk.
Wrote off rear rim real easy, front bearings died quickly and the pawl seats in the freehub shattered.
Seems a mixed bag then. I have been using Trail Wides for 18 months and I’ve had no issues.
Another one on Just riding Along wheels for almost 2 years and no problems
Mine have been great. Used on an aggressive hardtail and a fat biffs on board. Straight, true and weight not bad for 33mm rim. I run 2.8’s on mine and the rim width are just right for that.
I also have a Trek Slash which needed new wheels. I've ordered a set of Scrub Alloy 30's to replace the Bontrager carbon jobbies that came on the Slash. £365 delivered. Before ordering I asked lots of questions, all of which were answered really quickly and so far the service I've received has been first class.
Expandong from my earlier post.....Word on the Trail Wides, my Rocket Max originally came with them but I put gigantic folds in them within a couple of weeks, including some bizarre, sizable dents on the top side of the front rim. Emailed Cotic and they sorted it via Hunt for the enduros, so like I said, excellent service. My mate, who bought the same bike at the same time had exactly the same problem.
I'm sub 80kg, so not a big lad, and consider myself to be pretty easy going on components. I've had the same wheels on my HT, previously my only bike, for getting on 10 years.
They're fine, but I think you can do better for the money.
For hard trail riding you really want to be spending upwards of £450 for wheels. Bontager's old adage rings true by the sounds of it with the Hunts. They need to be careful or they'll kill their business pretty quickly by putting out cheap inferior goods.
I'd like to support them based on the customer service I had, it was excellent, but the product was no good.
TBH the 36 rear hub has properly put me off, if the rims are shit then its going to be hard to sort that out.
Don't rate mine .rear rim on the enduro wide is full of dents and I run 26 psi weight 64kg and whilst only a minor niggle I had to retape both rims as it was applied very poorly .
Spoke tension on the rear was also a bit off but not loads .
The 6 series hubs are decent imo the freehub not so .
Wouldn't bother again .
I bought a set of Trailwides which were absolute dogshit. Hunt upgraded them to Endurowides (after much complaining) which in all fairness have been faultless - and they have been ridden alot over the last 6 months.
My Endruo Wides have done over 1500km. That is mostly weekends in Innerleithen and Dunkeld but includes a couple of trips to Ft Bill, Pitlochry and some other rocky spots. Still running absolutely perfect. I have Trail Wides on my new bike, but lockdown means they've not had much of a test yet.
I think they're great, maybe I've just been lucky.
I've had the enduro wides for about a year, and rate them so far, no problems and I'm not exactly light on components, plenty of big cases and rock garden smashes. Running rimpact strips, so maybe they've helped avoid the issues others mention. Would buy again at this point. Great service as well.
I've got a few sets of Hunt wheels...
The XC ones have been faultless on my rigid SS... (and i'm not 'easy' on that bike!).. light, stayed true, rims great. The rapid hub pickup is great on the SS too. (disclaimer - was given these by Hunt to race on!)
I bought the Trail wide... hmm.... a trip to BPW and they were beaten to hell and back. Honestly...
Thankfully, i could pretty much bend them straight again... but... not overly impressed with the rims there..
DrP
I'm another rider who started with Trail Wides but had them exchanged by Hunt for the Enduro Wides when it became apparent that they weren't fit for purpose. Great customer service but I didn't really want anything as wide as the EW's so wish I'd bought/built something else. Should have stuck with the Hope/Stans combo...
My front Enduro Wide has now developed play which I'm in the process of trying to resolve.
I like my EW's. One dent on the rear but still holds air so it doesnt matter.
Rim replacements are cheap.
I dont often get to ride rocky trails though. And next time i'm going through rock gardens I'm not running 24psi (even with inserts)
