I have ordered a set of Hunt 4 season wheels for my Genesis Datum which has 15mm through axle on the front wheel. Having read this read
It sounds like I need a slim lockring. Hunt say they no longer supply a slim lockring. They also said that the newer Hunt 4 season wheels have different hubs and it might not be an issue.
Has anyone tried the new version on a genesis datum.
Can anyone recommend a slim lockring - send a link to where I can get one
Any other solutions?
Do I need a bb type lockring for 15mm TA or will a cassette tool type work?
Help help!
I know I can wait for them to arrive and see if they fit but would like to order the parts before they arrive so I can get up and running quickly .
It'll be a centre lock disc/cassette tool.
Will a cassette tool ring not be a right pain?
I have 12mm axles and the cassette lock ring type. I ended up having to buy a new tool as my normal one wouldn't fit. FWIW the icetooz one fitted. The BB lockring style is less likely to give you problems so I'd go with that.
Not sure on slim lockrings?
Cheaper Shimano ones are thin steel numbers.
My Mrs has some on her (unused) E-Bike. If you're stuck, I'll rob one and stick it in the post - I've got loads of the cassette locking ones which will work fine on her QR wheels (also work on 12mm but not on 15mm axles).
DM me if that's of use.
Cheers,
Dave.
I had similar issues with my Kinesis Racelight 4Sdisc - only really on the front, due to the mounting point of the flat mount calipers.
In the end, a slim locknut was sourced by scavenging this kit...
It uses a BB tool, like this...

Thanks guys - it’s good to to there’s options out there.

Not necessarily - it depends on the size of the endcaps on your axle - mine are too large to allow a standard cassette tool in. This is why the locking that I linked to above is required - thin enough to not foul the brake mounts, but has the tool indentations on the outside, to avoid the cassette tool issue
Bought as set of Hunt wheels on 4 season hubs just 3-4 months ago, for a datum; was aware of potential lockring issue. When I got them they fitted fine; plenty space between fork leg and lockring, I think they have resolved the issue, will double check when home later.
I have actually used a lower profile shimano centrlelock lockring (which I think came with the rotor), but the hunt one fitted. Not sure if there'd be a problem if using the six bolt adapter. Shimano needed cassette tool, hunt lockring the BB type. HTH
