difference in the way they ride ? been running some  27.5 3.0 wtb ranger tyres fast rolling!! and looking at putting  Bontrager XR4 2.8  more aggressive tyres for lakeland riding on my hardtail, because of the width I am concerned they will preforming differently with say a 35mm rim that the reviews have been based on or would it not make that much difference.

I've got  2.75 Dirt Wizard on a Hugo and it works well. Not sure about the profile on the xr4, but I'd not be concerned about giving it a go.

Another one to look at is the Vee Tire Crown Gem 3.0. I run this with a Ranger on the back and it's a cracking front tire with a decently aggressive (yet quite fast rolling) tread. The one I'm running comes up more like a 2.8 in real world width. This is on a 40mm rim.

Sidewalls seem to be pretty solid too - I'd say somewhere halfway between the WTB light and tough carcasses.

Currently about £48 on Next day tires...  http://nextday.bike/details.aspx/B37817-275-VeeTire-CrownGem-30/1862
