So I seem to be hard on them at the moment. Had hope evos and bearings gave up quite quick, then freehub cracked. Hope replaced it FOC.
Tried superstar switch and freehub cracked. SS replaced Foc and just gone again.
So what should I try next . Shimano ??

i think he means the common factor here is your riding as you seem to break every make of hubs and none of those are weak ones.

what is it you do I guess you are not a 10 stone whippet riding along canals

DT 350 runs the same free hub and internals as 240 for much less money.

Was on my third latest type shimano freehub in 6 months before I waved my white flag to them and admitted they are crap ( XT Zee Saint use the same type) , so for you, don't bother.

To give you all a bit more info, I'm 50, don't leave the ground too often
but like to try and climb everything..
The freehubs crack at the base of the pawls. I have had hope xc hubs in the past and never had problems with freehubs, just changed bearings.

Sorry, please explain[quote=blastit ]So I seem to be hard on them at the moment. You seemed to be suggesting you were currently giving them a harder time than usual. I was thinking that you've maybe changed something, e.g. a bigger bike but hammering through stuff more often, that sort of thing.

Get a set of 26 inch wheels with DT240S hubs, sell or bin everything that's not a hub? They're stupendously expensive new but weirdly it's cheaper to buy used wheels than to buy used hubs.

+1 for DT Swiss 240/350
I have a 240 rear wheel built up in 2006 that is still on it's original freehub bearings and star ratchet. I was advised to clean/lube every 3-4 months by the LBS (a 10 minute job with no tools required beyond a cassette tool and chain whip) and I have had no issues whatsoever.

The thing is, I don't feel I am that hard on hubs. I'm old and fat FFS.
Júst want them to work.
My riding style is, "don't get off on the ups, but its ok too on the downs"

This must be a riding style issue as hope free hubs are not known for breaking. DT Swiss freehub use a different freehub mechanism so they may prove more durable for the op. Shimano free hubs breaking what are you don to them. I race on miche hubs and hammer a set of novatec hubs pretty regularly and never cracked a freehub body.

I've just started building a set of DT 350 hubs. They seem very well made and finished. They were only £155 for the pair, from bike-discount.de.

What riding style breaks freehubs exactly?

Superstar Switch are pretty well known for cracking freehubs, Hope more commonly crack the entire hub but it's still a known weakness.

Yes, but it doesn't say 240 on it though..

Prefer my DT240 wheels to my King wheels by the way. They feel stronger to me.

Ok looking at Dt and shimano now. Two ends of the price range I know.
Which shimano ? XT ?
If I buy a 2nd hand DT 240 are all bodies the same and do you add adapters to suit or are they different widths ??
Sorry for dumb questions 🙄

No one has mentioned your washing routine. Are you a pressure washerer?

No pressure wash, hose and bucket and brush.
Could it be crap entering freehub and then putting pressure on just one pawl, making it fail ??
