I've just bought a set of old 26 inch Mavic Ex 729's off ebay as I read they were pretty bomb proof and I'm fed up of my wheels constantly needing trueing / tweeking.

My fork is 110 x 20 at the front and the frame 142 x 12 at the rear on a 2012 Norco Range 2.
Front wheel is fine as it has a 110 x 20 hub.

The rear wheel has a 135 x 12 hub. Looks like it is a sun ringle abbah / lawwill.
I already have a sun ringle charger pro wheelset currently spaced to 142 x 12. This set has the replaceable end caps to easily change axle sizing. The two hubs look very similar. There is no mention in the internet of the replaceable end caps working on the abbah however these are an older hub and probably isn't used much. The following are my options:

1. The end caps from the charger can be put on abbah to increase the spacing to 142 mm - easy.
2. The axle on the abbah doesn't look like it sticks out of the non drive side like on the charger and appears to use a floating spacer. See pic / link below. I was hosping then I could take the axle from the charger and use it on the abbah and therefore use the 142 end caps.

3. Neither 1 or 2 works and I have to space out each side by 3.5mm. I have found these aluminium spacers which say they allow the use of a 135 x12 wheel in a 142 x 12 frame but I cannot see how they would work. My best guess is that they sit at either side of the frame on the inside where the thru axle screws in. You would have to hold the rear wheel up as it wouldn't sit on the recesses in the frame due to it being a shorter 135. You would then have to insert the 142 thru axle through the frame then 3.5mm washer, the hub, then the other washer to then screw into the other side if the frame. The washers would not rest on the recesses in the frame and so all weight bearing / load would be through the thru axle.....

If anyone has any experience of the above / any ideas I will be all ears!

Cheers

Dan

135x12 and 142x12 are the same spacing. Its just that 142 has two pockets in the frame that the end caps slide into. The washers just fill the space. I think the pockets aren't there to.support the wheel anyway, just make alignment easier. The axle and clamping force hold the wheel in. You could tape the washers to the end caps like people do with boost kits.

Thanks for the reply Nixie. Yes taping it together sounds like a pretty low tech plan!
