Hi, I just removed the Eagle GX cassette from my bike and it looks like the hub (Superstar V6) end cap or cartridge bearing has come off with it and is stuck in the top of the cassette. Not too much of a problem as the hub is knackered anyway and I'm replacing the wheel entirely but I'm wondering about the best way to remove the end bit of the hub from the cassette.

Has anyone else seen this happen before? Is it just a case of knocking it out with a screwdriver or something? Don't mind if I damage the end cap but obviously want to reuse the cassette on a new wheel. Thanks for any advice.

It isn't the freehub body that has come off with the cassette? You sure it is the bearing only?

Just asking as I had an older set of hubs that would remove the push-on/pull-off XD freehub body with the cassette if the wheel was cassette down and not on the bike. It would just slide straight back on and was fine one the bike.

It did make.removong the cassette a wee bit trickier but only as I needed to make sure the cassette was angled cassette upwards to remove it from the freehub.

Thanks for the response - definitely just the end bit. The freehub body has come out of the cassette and left something behind 🙂

Hope that worked - one showing the top view with freehub body, the other showing view from bottom of cassette.

I had a SRAM Roam hub that did this.

I think some tapping of the end cap should knock it and the bearing through. If the end cap is now captive in the cassette, it shouldn't be - and so must be able to come out through the inner end of the cassette. Maybe use a plastic or wooden mallet to tap it for a bit of reassurance?

I think both bits will just drop out then.

Thanks for the responses. I was able to knock it out with a screwdriver and a mallet. Was properly wedged in but I got there in the end 🙂
