HT2 CRANK PLUGS - to use the hole as storage

I've seen tools and things designed to go in them but never a plug. It would need to be very sturdy and very waterproof (at both ends) to inspire me to use it mind.

Also how much are you likely to fit in there?

The things you'd need to get into it seem like they'd take up more space than the things you'd be able to store in it.

Which HT2 cranks are open on the drive side?

So far as I can think, all of them.

All the mtb ones at any rate.

The magnetic ones are a good idea but the knockoffs (at least) are crap and don't stay put. I'd rather thread something into the drive side but that obviously comes with warranty issues. Alternatively you could make a replacement preload cap that the accessory screws into. Hmm...

I'd probably go for a solution like the granite steerer one, a "bolt" from the pre-load on the nds and threaded capsule of some sort inserted from the ds and screwed onto/into the pre-loader.

A multi tool, a chain breaker and a spare link all stuffed inside the crank axle.

The Mariposa tubeless tyre plug goes in there and fills it well.

Before that I used to store zipties in there folded back on themselves.

Zip ties work well, so could you tape chain links to zip ties and put them in that way?

The other thing to put in there - or even use to plug it is Moto foam. Weighs **** all, stops mud collecting. I stick it all over the bike in winter.

All In multi tool uses a magnet I think. Can you buy just the circular magnets?

I've had a Maxalami twister tubeless tool and spare worms in my axle for a couple of years now, hasn't moved and convenient when needed (which it's not been yet!). Wouldn't want anything that's too faffy to take in or out though.

On the Giant set the only thing that shows rust is the magnetic ring that holds it all in place. The tool is usually damp when I pull it out but I guess it must be finished in some way that doesn’t rust.

I had a magnetic multi-tool that I thought was brilliant - so convenient. However, it did rust after a couple of weeks and I wouldn't go that route again.

I have a Granite puncture plug kit that lives in my crank. Has stayed in so far.

I like to keep a frankfurter in mine for an in-ride snack. I plug in the bread roll to stop it falling out.
