Just got myself a Bryton Rider 35t...seems very good but looking at my hrm readings i appear to be 'strange'.

I have a resting heart of about 70...i put this down to my liking for diet cola/pepsi max...about 3 cans a day.

Anyway, get hooked up and my heart is around 85-90. Get on bike a pedal...doesnt feel hard and around 14-16mph...hrm is reading about 140. After about 5 min it is about 170 and doesnt really drop below 165. My max is about 190.

Im not thinking im pushing hard...i do feel as though im working but figure it is just getting used to pedalling again.

Im not interested in training or zones but is it 'normal' to have your heart rate at the upper levels for pretty much the whole ride? My fitness does need improved but i didnt get the unit for hrm training more just a nice to see, but i am interest to hear if that is pretty much how it is for others.

Assuming once my fitness picks up the readings will drop slightly?

Cheers.

your just not as fit as you think. im not the fittest but my resting heart rate is 55bpm and 160bpm cruising max rate 195.
so for your resting rate figures are normal.

A tempo ride for me is an average 130-140 if I push it then it is 140+. A mate of mine for the same sort of rides will always be around 20 BPM higher. Different strokes for different folks.

It will drop slowly over time.

how hard does it feel on a scale of 1-10?
maybe your max is higher than 190?

here's a mad crazy idea... take your pulse manually and check if the HRM is accurate?

After that, then depending on your age 70bpm resting pulse isnt too bad...

Yes, hrm seems accurate. Scale...i guess maybe 7 or 8. Im expecting it to drop as i know im unfit (but mind suggests otherwise!)...sounds as though it is 'normal' so that is ok...plenty room for improvement!

I did an hour long run with a hrm the other night. Didn't think I was going that hard but turns out I was running in zone 4.

Think it just means I need more time working at zone 2. My mountain biking has always been high intensity interval I guess. Never really don't much LSD (long steady distance)
