I fancy one of those garden sprayers to use to clean the bike just after muddy cx races, whilst still at the venue.
Looking at the 7l version: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B006L6M7EO/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3VQA0XWZKN32O&coliid=I3IHKZWMTBXDUP&psc=1
Anyone know if it will be powerful enough to clean a muddy bike, before the mud dries on?
Cheers
I used to use one. Its okay, you can always take a 2nd bottle of water.
Squirt a few spurges of car shampoo into it after filing with water, it makes the water wetter, eg reduces the surface tension of the water, a surfactant its called.
washing up liquid contains salt so not recomended.
another gallon container of water to top up with helps.
I sometimes take a couple of 2l pop bottles of water and "sports" cap from a smaller bottle, I can get the worst of the mud blasted off the bike.
Used one for years in winter. Fine for cleaning off the crud. But the bike won't be sparkling clean. A 7L should be enough to clean two bikes sufficiently to bring home in a car.
spray with detergent in it and a dish scrubbing brush. You will waste a lot of water trying to blast it all off. Wet it down with soapy water and then agitate with a brush and then rinse off.
Garden sprayers are often a fine spray and don't blast. The latest one I've got can do two bikes in 5L, though depends how much sticks to the tyres as that's the worst part I find (if it's clay soil, then it's a nightmare to wash off anyway).
If I've let the mud stick for a bit, I'll brush and/or spray the thick stuff off, then I use a bit of Muc-Off, rinse off the rest and wipe dry including the chain.
Chain and cassette are doing far better now I've switched to Squirt. Muddy ride and a hose down and they're pretty much clean. Oil in the past and cassette would be black and a pig to clean.
I've got one of these...

It's ok, the brush is useful and attaches to the hose so you can squirt and brush!
I keep one in the back of the car, and some muc-off(other products are available), and give the bikes a squirt before i head home. Not enough pressure to worry bearings, but enough to remove most of the mud.
Obviously, once I am home, I clean it properly.
Cheers, will put on my xmas list.
