Anyone know how to stop Strava altering GPX files, even routes from their own website?? Im trying to copy a mates route at Hamsterley, and Stravas own routing keeps knocking chunks off, particularly the cheekier stuff, then adding random bits that are nonsensical. Every setting I change makes no difference. Its set to mountain bike ride, prefer dirt surface, yada yada but it will not altering it. It does both in the app and on the website. Any ideas people?
It’s habit of changing the route when you change the surface type you prefer or anything else is pretty irritating.
What happens if you click undo after you import it? Does that return it to its former glory?
"Routing". I think that's your problem.
You need to use a Track, not a Route. The former will follow the original track completely. Get Routing involved and it'll adapt to follow known trails that might not be on the originally recorded GPX file.
Is this in app (or on the website) or is it happening after you've uploaded the route to your device?
Cos you need to check the device settings too.
Partly as scotroutes says, it might be doing it in-app if you're trying to use FPs or other bits that Strava doesn't like (eg, gravel instead of road) or, if it's happening in-device, it'll be the settings on the GPS unit itself over-ruling the loaded route for the same reasons.
Yeah, i've had the device do it to me as well.
In the UK most road cycle routes follow roads, so uploading a route or track with mixed road and cycle paths doesn't make any difference.
Over here the cycle tracks are completely random and unconnected.
So i spent a good amount of time swearing at my garmin until i worked out what it was doing.
