The 8th gear on a GX Eagle cassette seems to be clicking like it is trying to change. It isn't, and the other gears all run silently - like mech is properly adjusted to run on each cog.
Is it common and if so, how do you adjust it out?

is it a new setup or part used ?
how have you set the B screw up? eg do you have the sram red guide thingy?
forgot to say its not normal when its all set up and new. when its part worn it gets very fussy ime.
Mine does this. In fact gx on both my bikes does. No idea why or how to stop it unfortunately. Be glad to hear if a solution is known.
Can't say as I have it on mine but out of curiosity have you guys had your mech hangers checked for alignment?
Brand new and also changed mech (GX to X01) and still happening. B-screw adjusted to be on the max line of the guide (closest to cassette).
It works and shifts very well, just sounds slightly out on this one gear.
Yep, mine too has always done this. Have set it up using the red alignment tool. Just got used to it now.
Fair enough...if it is a 'feature' then I can live with it. If it can be adjusted out, I'd like to know how though.
I had this after getting a twig jammed in there
Changed the hanger, reset the tensions / b screw, was better, but not perfect, so then spent half an hour with the bike on a stand turning through the gears until I found exactly which tooth was, then with a needle file took the leading edge off the tooth with a needle file.
It’s quiet again and still changes gear happily.
One of mine does it too. On closer inspection it does look like a tooth is bent slightly. Adjusting the b screw using the tool made it better though, so I just live with it.
I find the b-tension tool just gives a starting point, a slight tweak one way or the other from there still helps
If you've checked the mech hanger alignment, limit screws, cables and cable tension then it does sound like it could be a bent cassette tooth as mentioned above.

Only 8th gear would click. Had a really close look at the chain with a bright light while turning cassette. There were 2 teeth on 9 that contact the chain plates enough to hold the chain out from normal engagement of 8th for a moment. Only happens on a few due to phasing of the teeth of 8 and 9. A minor tweak of the tooth by prying gently with a flat head screw driver solved it.
Had the same issue on 2 gx cassettes now. No fix yet
I had exactly the same issue on the 5th gear (counting up from the smallest) on two bikes equipped with gx. The chain is catching on a tooth ramp on the cog next to it. A few seconds with a demel sorts it. There is videos online covering this issue
Guys be very careful here on chain stretch. Turns out mine was way out of spec and necessitated a new cassette as well. Expensive lesson. This is on a bike that was new last fall and sat over the Canadian winter. I need to see what actual mileage was but get yourself a chain checker!
