I recently built a wheel but have managed to drop one of the nipples into the rim
Is there a trick to getting it removed?

Shake it, spin it, swear at it, repeat until nipple is out. Be warned - silence does NOT prove the nipple has fallen out without you noticing, and any such foolhardy notions will be met with the previously securely lodged nipple emitting revitalised tinkling sounds as soon as you've done something daft like adding tape, valve and tyre.
