I've got access to a sloping field (now that the frost has killed off the chest high weeds) which I fancy running a couple of slalom style mates races in.

Even though the field is abandoned I don't want to to do any digging or leave any trace other than a few tyre tracks.

Question is, considering the field is pretty much featureless other than its slope, how do I plan where it goes other than just zig zag left corner right corner accross the width of the field?

Any suggestions such as is it better to start fast and tighten it up towards the end or what?

I'd assume start slow and build up to a crescendo of speed and mangled bones and aluminium at the end....

That's ok, I'm using a steel frame.

Maybe quick, slow quick then? I figure there is more skill going from fast to slow but that could just mean everyone misses gates

No crossovers, takes too much marking out, one course & two riders

Keeping it simple
