Normal puncture repair glue and patches won't stick to the special airtight coating on the inside of my Maxxis UST tyres! So how do I fix a small pinprick puncture?
PS: Don't really want to add sticky white goo as I hate the mess, and I only get punctures very rarely as I'm not in a thorny area!
Tried the stab your tyre with a rubber plug sort ? Very reliable and you dont even have to take the tyre off..
I have used those anchovy things. Worked well on the trail but I can't see the point of making a tiny hole into a great big one that fails ultimately.
Clean the inside surface of the tyre first with meths then roughen it up quite heavily with some abrasive paper. Clean it again and then try. Use a reasonable layer of evenly applied adhesive and leave it until it feels touch dry before pressing the path on.
Double post.
I have had success with motorcycle tyre repair patches (from ebay) and Rema tip-top glue.
Stop being so prissy and use the goo though.
😉
Yeah, saw those rubber plug types & the braided cord which I think are similar, but like zippykona I just wince at the thought of turning a tiny pinprick into a wallowing great hole!
robinlaidlaw - sounds promising! Did try to rough up the surface with a bit of sandpaper, but didn't make much impact on the textured super slippery inside surface of those UST tyres. Maybe have to attack them with a bit more gusto!
Put on a new tyre for the mo & to keep me going for the weekeend - but I can't afford a new one every time I get a puncture!
Yeah cha****ng - I may have to relent and embrace the stickyness if this keeps happening...
velox UST/TUBELESS specific tyre repair kit - now go off and buy one cos they just work
anchovy things not for me, as above just making a small hole, much bigger and when ive done it in the past its never lasted
velox patches, with some form of super stronge glue, rub tyre inside first with sandpaper, put glue on, and then patch, done!
had a 4mm ish tyre rip, anchovies didnt work, bought the velox kit, took 10 mins, and the tyre was still fine 4 months on!
Its the only way i'll repair them now, and given where my slash/cut was i cant see me ever having it in a more awkward position, so if its lasted 4 months fine where that was, then it should work piece of pee on anywhere else on the tyre!

seriously though, they just work - they are essentially just like normal patches to look at, but whether its the glue, or the patches themself that make them different i dont know, but they do work! just make sure you rub down the area with sandpaper first and its obviously dry around the area (though i think instructions come with)
i think i got mine from CRC and Wiggle - ive only ever done it twice, but as above the last one was in a really awkward place on the bend on the sidewall, and its stuck flawlessy throughout winter and ridden as normal tubeless...
cant see it failing on any other type of puncture tbh
+1 for velox.. i tried every other option and nowt worked.. these did 😀
Velox it is then - one kit ordered from Wiggle!
No trip to the LBS tomorrow 🙁
Ride instead 😀
